Hey guys, Freddie (the property owner) asked if I would spread the word to the climbing community they have now closed rock climbing on the property. It was a difficult decision for them to make, but due to liability issues they were forced to close. From Freddie's email... "We are closing the rock climbing @ POB effective immediately if you could please pass this on to other climbers we would appreciate it. We thank the climbing community for all their support during the last 6 years & will always cherish the friendships we made. There was a lot that went into this decision but we are sure it is time to shut down the climbing. Thanks, Freddie & Christine "

What a pity!! Theres not a lot of rock climbing in the area and closing POB has reduced it even more. Can nothing be done to persuade the owners to open it up again. I would be prepared to pay more to climb (within reason) I never got to POB to climb. When I got there it was already closed so I went to Mineral Wells. Limestone is much better rock. Can someone tell me if there is any other climbing within 2 hours drive of Fort Worth? John Cook

the Burn is in cleburn(sp?) and thats less than 2 i think. i dont know how good it is but ive heard there is some good stuff out there. Reimers which is in the austin area is also really good, about 3 depending on how fast you drive and how bad the traffic is.

But the Burn is also closed to climbing. You can go to Robbers Cave in Oklahoma. Its about 2.5 hours away. JB

Is anyone trying to negotiate with the owners, or find out what the reason for the closure is. Have seen a report, but can't find source now, (have looked) that says POB is closed because the local tourist business/RV park was worried about safety. Maybe talking to them. I'm new to US, is there an orginisation who works on access, like the BMC in the UK?

John, numerous organizations are on top of this, Access Fund being one of them. Right now the owner is not respective to opening his land back up to climbers. The best thing anybody can do right now is nothing. The owner and his wife are great people, I have talked to them a few times but are just overwhelmed after the developer Jimmy Ray Forester passed away. Hopefully they will re-open, but it likely won't happen anytime soon.

It's not looking good. Texas Mountaineers and Access Fund both tried to talk to the owner a long while back. It has been over a year now. So it is not looking very promising.

I talked to Christine the other day and she said that she and Freddy are selling POB and that the new owners might re-open it to climbers. do you know anything about this?
