This is super sad I met a Dave a few times and he was always a super nice guy! He was very selfless in donating his fix it services to a local nonprofit in Laramie, and played a large role in keeping Vedauwoo a nice place to climb. Condolences to his family.

What a shock--my condolences as well.
Does anyone know what is meant by "a brief illness?" Did Dave have the flu, perhaps? I also wonder what this means for the future of CCH? Maybe those questions are better addressed in a separate thread, but I'm curious.

I understand it was Liver cancer. Don't know if this is the case with Dave, but I've seen this with other metal working dudes, I think that often they get high volatile degreasers used to clean off the metals on their skin and it goes right to their livers.
Damn sad in either case.

Aliens were a damn fine design - probably the best small cam design ever mass produced. That's a hell of an impressive accomplishment.

I just want to add that my beloved 15 year old red alien with a broken trigger wire arrived back yesterday - all repaired and as good as new. I had sent it off to CCH just 2 days before Dave passed and never expected to see it again.
CCH is back!
