Not sure if this goes into the beginners, but I'll try here first since it's official...I've started my trad rack! First piece, #3 C4 cam. He's a big blue guy, and even better, hanging off a nice brand new non toothed RED biner!! Oh yeah, watch out...I'm out there! So far, this newbie's personal* rack consists of -3 lockers -3 trad draws -#3 C4 cam -long sling for anchor material It's coming along, slowly but surely. Next...tricams? whoo hooo!! Damn I love this! cheers ls *my buddies and I have something of a "communal" rack. It actually works better than you'd think!

That was my first piece oh so many years ago. Well the camalot version. It was a Xmas gift from my sister. It was amazing how fast the rack came together piece by piece. Enjoy!

Congratulations on your rack And another vote for nuts! Tricams (as well as "normal" cams ) are nice and all, but nuts are a nice (and inexpensive) base of every rack. qwert

i bought 4 dmm nuts at he same time in 2001 (all the money i saved). And a week later i was able to buy a other 4 bd nuts ;-). They only way to test/use them at the time was putting the nuts in the reinforcement stones on a local dike. Later in 2002 i climbed whit the pieces fore real the first time in Belgium freyr on a kids climbing weekend :-)[/;)].

As a dude who found the pun "Nice rack!" funny the first time I heard it, I have to say it has lost its luster the 13,000th time around. Good job on starting the collection Scarlett. I also agree a set of nuts should be the next in order. Keep your eyes peeled on mountain project for a good used set. Stuff seems to turn over pretty quickly there with plenty of solid deals.

My buddy and I went in halves on a full passive rack. The communal rack is indeed a great tool. We rocked that for a year or two before we each started adding our own cams. Congrats on starting a rack! Next step... gearwhore. (no female connotation intended)

Didn't buy cams until I was racking on my own a few years later, though.

My first was a set of nuts 1-13 at Moab Adventure Outfitters. I've probably got one or two of them still. It's hard to tell. My first cams were a 1, 2, 2.5, and 3 friend. I got the 1 stuck maybe the second time I used it. The 2.5 got stuck about 3 years later when the cables broke in a hard to reach spot. I still have and use the 2 and 3. Or I would if there was any trad on this island.

Better yet, borrow one first. Have you ever used them?

Meh, maybe that was the combined rack size or something.
