Popped something pulling on a pocket

I was climbing at the gym last night, feeling stronger than usual and proving it by getting some stuff I've been working on for a while now.

I had both feet on the wall a little more than shoulder width apart. My right hand was in a small 2 finger pocket in an open grip (middle/ring fingers)...

I was putting weight on the right hand to shift to grab a hold with my left hand when I felt (and the people behind me heard) a pop in my wrist. Felt like it was just below my hand...like a tendon or whatever sliding into place which happens for me sometimes.

I stopped for a second, didn't really hurt so much as it felt weird, kept climbing the route, but came off later when my foot popped off a hold. I can still use the hand... like 80%. Using the middle 2 fingers in the same config I have a soreness in the top and bottom middle of my hand and a slight tired feeling in my wrist.

I can bend the finger fine at all digits by itself or with other fingers, it doesn't really hurt then per say... if I try and use that specific finger to pull down on something individually i feel something move at the base of the finger/knuckle on the palm side of my hand maybe a half inch down. I'm not doing it enough to notice if it really hurts and what type of pain, but that seems to be where the problem is and maybe what popped.

if I have my hand outstretched and curl it into a fist slowly i feel a short dull pain in the palm of my hand directly underneath the knuckle (draw a line straight thru), so I guess the bottom side of the knuckle. The pain is only there for a brief second right before my finger tips touch the palm of my hand.

Comparing ring fingers on either hand they both look the same, no swelling or bruising or noticeable bulging of anything.

As far as my wrist goes, on the underside of my wrist directly in the middle where the joint is there really isn't any pain or anything else regardless of how I move it. But it does feel slightly swollen inside if that makes sense, not specifically movement related, just very slightly uncomfortable so it's barely noticeable.

I woke up in the middle of the night on my right side and my first 3 fingers on my right hand were numb... went away when I held my hand up in the air. Sleeping on my left side is fine. I'm looking for a specialist in the area to go see next week if they can get me in. So much for feelin strong that night I guess!

Yeah.... I'd have to say that pretty much covers what happened. Good info. I'll probably continue to climb and not use that finger in the specific manner there.

I was going to tape it...just not sure where to... I guess to the middle finger makes sense if that's where the tear occurred, they will need to be close to heal right, but on the same note I feel I'm more likely to use it then as opposed to taping it to my pinky... thoughts?

Well I went to the gym tonight... taped my middle/ring fingers above and below the middle joint and I was fine the whole night. Just didn't pull down on anything too tweaky. I was good with full power on full hand crimps though. Some pinches were troublesome so I avoided those. I've come to realize though I do a LOT of two finger pockets with my right hand. Very interesting.
