there are year passes available for purchase...i suggest doing this, not only will it cover you at the gathering, but once you see this place i KNOW most of you will be back for more and more this summer at NRP

climbing for those of y'all not familiar with nelson rocks preserve the rock is sandstone/quartzite.

nelson has two fins or 4 sides. there is trad, sport and top=rope as well as the via ferrata

...climbs range from 5.0 to 5.13. the approachs are minimal, the area clean and we will prolly be the only climbers there. it is a short 15 minutes drive to seneca rocks for those wanting to climb that also.

lodging at nelson rocks preserve:

roughing it cabins at nelson rocks that can be rented...4 @ $9/night includes climbing pass anyone else camping above 4 to a cabin $$ will be added to the food/beverage fund

tent spots $7/night includes pass

there are also motels near seneca if ppl are interested, pm me

food will be discussed in february...when we have an official count of heads errrr...stomachs

anyone willing to fly in we will be sure to take good care of you, the closest major airports are:

baltimore-washington international (BWI)

washington dulles International (IAD)

ronald reagan washington national airport (DCA)

You know i'll be there. I can't wait.

I've climbed at Seneca alot in march, the weather wil be great.

If anyone needs to know what gear to bring here's a quick list.

passive and active gear up to about 3 or 4
friend size and maybe a couple of large pieces depends on the climb. I always carry at least the 3 smallest tricams also. Brassies can come in handy sometimes but are not nessecary. my rack is one set of nuts and forged friends up to 3 1/2 and a set of tcus plus some tricams.

Ben

Need camping info, please. Gotta figure out how much this will set me back, aka whether I can afford to go.

Thanks,

We'll see, Anne. If anything, Harry has offered to pick me up and give me a lift. Which I would rather do than fly. Why, cheaper and safer to drive.

I'll know in Feb if I can go. I hope I can.

Either way, if I go, It may only be as a belay slave or camping thing. I still have to have my knee looked at.

Well, I'll know all this by Feb, so...

I just thought, that if I can make this (which I am really hoping), but my knee is as bad as I think it is, I'll belay slave on top ropes (which I'm sure there won't be many). I also have a handy knack for cooking and drinking, so I can do some camp managerial work, grilling, and absurd amounts of drinking. Would anyone be opposed to me grilling a meal when you all come back from a hard day's climb? Furthermore, would anyone be opposed to me drinking ridiculous amounts of beer? Good lord, I have the belly for it.

Hey Steve, why don't you take a wee short cut through Manitoba/Northern Ontario, then carpool down with me?

Wait, that's not much of a shortcut.

OO! It's 3 months and I'm already excited! Eeeeeeee!

I'll be even more psyched once I find out what sorts of gear Rob ... I mean, Santa Claus has left me under the tree. 'Cause this trip will be the first time I get to take it for a ride! Wahoo! You guys get to help me break in virgin gear!

...and hopefully Rob (hubby) will be able to get the vacation time and join us, as it's great fun to watch him flail ... I mean, he makes me look a lot better... I mean.... I really love climbing with him....
