First off sorry this isn't in regional but i couldn't figure out how to post it from the routes section.

Now down to bidness. Anyone know if the temps will allow climbing around Jo'burg in Jan/Feb. I'll be working at an orphanage downtown but should have some time off to myself. I've heard it will be over 100F so I kind of doubt it but maybe there are some shady climbs for the after work burn. I also figure that travelling to Rocklands would just be a waste of money at this time of year but correct me if i'm wrong.
Below is the Orphanage link if anyone is interested. Please check it out

It won't be that hot - South Africa is pretty temperate. watervall boven will probably be your best bet, and if i remember right is about 3-4 hours from joburg. there are some really cool looking domes in the drakensburgs a little further on, but i never climbed there myself. i've heard of a few chosspiles near the city

if you can take a few days, hop a flight to cape town. the climbing on table mountain is just awesome. it like 10 gunks stacked on top of each other with a sea view.

Hello

It never really gets too hot, Jan/Feb is the hot but it is quite bearable, and there is not too much humidity.
Just try not to get mugged if climbing in jhb on weekdays, don't go alone.

You can join the forum at http://www.saclimb.co.za
You will find there all the info you need for climbing spots and the people will be able to help if you need a partner.

Waterfall boven is awesome climbing. More than 1000 sport routes. Anytime of the year it's a great place to be. http://www.rocrope.co.za has all the info. Definately a must! Stay there for a weekend or longer.

I have never been to the Cape so I have no info for you there.

If you are looking for a climbing gym in Jhb try Wonderwall in kyasands info at http://www.wonderwall.co.za/
It's a really nice gym

If you are in or near the Pretoria area http://www.climbingbarn.com/
It's a really nice gym too.

Smile

Bring a rack for waterfall boven. I was able to do an awful lot of the "sport routes" on bomber gear. There are also some offwidths that aren't bolted. They are pretty good once you knock down the spiders. The climbing is pretty similar to Eldorado Canyon.

And if you head to the Cape area, Plettenberg Bay has some good climbing options as well. There are a couple of really awesome gear stores in Cape Town with tons of local guide books that I haven't ever seen anywhere else.
