Looking to spend 15 or so days climbing in the Patones and Madrid region of Spain during the latter part of March (2010).
I'm curious if anyone knows what a good rope (esp length) to bring on the trip for the types of sport routes that are there?
I'm not familiar with the area, and am still waiting for guides to arrive to get a general idea of what the pitches are/are not like.

Hi,
I´ve climbed in Patones with my 75m long and I had no problem. I´ve got the guidebook of Patones and it doesn´t specify the length of each route. But looking at the general info it says that the maximum length of the routes that you can find is 50m long (which are in "muro de lamentos"). There are also very short routes (6m) but as far as I remember the overall length is around 20-30m. Some routes are 2 pitches long too.
If you´re going to be there for 15 days I let you know that there are more climbing spots around Patones (also trad and bolted multipitch).Let me know if interested.

Yeah, definitely.
I should've been more clear... we're going to be splitting the trip up between climbing in Patones (probably six days) and bouldering in Albarracín and Navalosa the rest of the time.
So 75m it is then... Thanks!

well, that´s the length of my rope and went ok there but you could manage with a shorter one.

It would be ok, there are a lot of routes to climb so, many ones to choose.
I´ve just been surfing the internet, ´cause I think that March might be a little bit chilly to go to Albarracin, and I got with this. It´s also in English so, it might be of your interest.

Oh, cool... yeah, i have the Ebloc guide, covers the areas (and others) quite extensively.
I'm pretty excited about Albarracin... do you really think late march (last two weeks+first few days of April) is too cold?
I'm from the east coast of the US (Philadelphia, PA) so i'm relatively used to cold-ish temps...

I´m not sure but it´s almost at 1200m high and Teruel is a cold area. PMme when you´re going to come and I can check the weather forecast for you.

You'll be fine on anything in Patones w/ a 70m rope. Check out Pedriza as well. Cuenca is much better than Patones and is not too far from Albarra. You be fine w/ a 70 in Cuenca as well.

The reason we went with Patones is that it's relatively centralized to Madrid (the same with the two bouldering areas).
Cuenca definitely looks incredible, though...

You can hit Cuenca on your way back/to from albarra. It's actually on the way. Getting to Albarra is a pain no matter what way you take. I'd recommend hitting up Cuenca. It's so much better than Patones.
