This afternoon at a meeting with Hamilton Conservation Authority, the ACCess Committee confirmed inclusion of another venue in the Hamilton region. In addition to Tiffany Falls and the Spencer Gorge(Tews) climbing areas, the waiver system implemented last year to avert an ice climbing ban at HCA locations, will now allow climbing at Felkners Falls also.

The season permit, utilizing a waiver system, will now allow climbing at three HCA locations but will still only cost the same as last year, a mere $20 for the season. So far it looks like it will be a good ice year and should prove to make the permit good value.

I remind you that following HCA concerns over liability and some environmental considerations, a ban on ice climbing was seriously considered. This was narrowly avoided with much work and a waiver/permit system. Access is by no means assured now although a memorandum of understanding has been signed for this winter and the situation will be reviewed on an annual basis. What this means is that to protect your access privileges you need to:
-Obtain a permit to climb.
-Have your partners obtain permits.
-Spread the word on the extra location.
-Inform all ice climbers of the waiver system.

AND

Think COLD thoughts.
