The editing was good. The old guy was cool. The younger guys were less cool by an order of magnitude.

Some very different attitude and characters for sure. Nice job on the editing. Would love to see a different camera angle, but...

Climber versus spayer for sure.

Why is one of the young guys shown downclimbing at an accelerated speed? I initially thought he was panicking and was about to go crater. Another thing is that it's hard to see just what the angle of that climb is. It looked like a nice slab, but then when the camera looks down at some point, it looked close to vertical.

The old guy was cool. Stick with him and de-emphasize the others.

What camera are you using? Can you barrow an HD one or at least a widescreen one from someone. The higher quality the video the better.

Like others have said try to get a better angle on the climb and the climber. Your initial shots made it look like he was climbing something that wasn't even close to vertical.

Can you rope up and go higher with the camera? Shots looking down usually look better than those looking up.

I hope none of the people in that vid ever die falling off a dog shit piece of rock like Grizzly Dome. That would be as bad as falling off a big-dog shit pile of rocks in PA woods and dying... FUCKING STUPID.

But young men will be fucking stupid, as evidenced by both vids. The self-congratulatory nature of each vid is quite disturbing. Somehow I think CrazyPete's buddies learned a lesson... and somehow I think the young guys in this vid have a ways to go.

that said... these guys look like much more serious climbers to me. Certainly the Seasoned Vet but even the young guys move with an assurance lacking from any of the PA participants.

Grizzly Dome is not a great place to make a film - low angle, ugly rock, no top out, next to a fricking highway and I mean RIGHT next to it (good job editing highway noises out of vid!).

Hard to get good angles there.

Nice vid though!

I don't see how this prevents you from getting a few more angels. If you're studying to be a cinematographer I'd say its a prerequisite.

Otherwise, a nice film.

The low angle nature of the rock coupled with the fact the dome is sandwiched in next to a highway (3 feet away) and there is no 'upstream' view.

Its just not a good location for video. You'd have to see the place to really understand - a highway runs through it.

Still smacks of being a lazy shooter to me. Even if your location isn't that scenic, you could still shoot some better shots from above.

If it really isn't scenic, them shoot somewhere else.

Rock climbing isn't about just pulling down on holds... it's about gastons!

I laffed. I also enjoyed the guy training on the doorframe pullups. classic stuff.

I'd suggest moving the text out of the middle of the screen. It's boring visually, and way too big and obnoxious when we meet Drake, or whatever his name is. In that particular case I'd probably move it into the darkness of the bottom right and right-justify it. I'd also try to get it out from on top of Brad when we first meet him.

He didn't say gaston (auh huh!) with a fake french accent, so I had to deduct a point on style.

Climbing is about gastons, slopers, layback cracks, crimps, figure 7s, and deadpoint dynos. Oh Yeah!

I would looove to get more angles, but like he said, theres a highway prolly... 30 feet behind where the interview was. And to be able to but toether with different angle you need to have 2 cameras so that the cuts are smoothly put together. But thanks for the great criticism guys. Im getting better stuff then my film class mates opinions here. I am going to buy an HD camera here soon. And for the audio i used a mic iike a singers mic. attached to a golf club for a boom mic. haha. good stuff.

Two cameras is helpful but not necessarily required. Cut to a POV, a wide, a close up, or talking head, then come back to the 2nd angel.

Doesn't that happen with ALL slab climbing routes??.... it happens with all the ones I've climbed. Merely a ramp from the ground, but a vertical wall from the top.
