The news has hit a couple other sites, so adding it here: Guy Lacelle was caught in an avalanche at the Bozeman Ice Festival and has passed.

I just got a call from Canmore a couple minutes ago confirming this. Sad news. I know the local community here in Alberta is being hit pretty hard by all this. My support to all those who knew him, the local community, and his family.

Rest in Peace Guy, I'm sure Every Day Dave already has the choice lines picked out for you 2 up there.

This is so sad. Guy has a big gentle heart and was approachable by anyone. I met him when I was calling his first ice fest in Ouray. Reading his bio I choked up when I got to his main goal in life... to be a decent human being. Guy, you, my friend, are a decent human being. I'll miss you so much.

Guy Lacelle tragically lost his life thursday morning in Hyalite Canyon near Bozeman Mt. From what I heard it was a avalanch. Organizers of the Bozeman Ice Festival have decided that, in Guy's honor, the festival will continue as planned. Guy dedicated his life to the sport of ice climbing and to sharing his passion with many otherclimber.
I was looking forward to experiencing some of Guy's knowledge this weekend. Guy was scheduled to be one of the instructors.

I know not everyone reads the Local forum for the Canadian Rockies (http://www.gravsports-ice.com/icethreads), but there is one comment made over there that I felt was well placed.

The comment was for a well noted member of the community who know Guy quite well, it simple said that he would miss the idea of Guy Lacelle as much as the man himself.

That simple way of stating it hit the nail on the head for me. Were not just giving our respect to a climber, we're giving our respect to someone who saw and influenced our sport in more ways than can be counted. Even the idea of someone like Guy could encourage climbers right across the levels of experience; beginner, or expert... he was an inspiration. On top of that, he was a good man.

So sorry to hear this. Conditions are in, but so are avy conditions here, about 5 hours away. I was out checking the ice the evening of this happening, and the most stunning sunset I have seen all year guided our descent out of another canyon.

Here it is, goodbye Guy. You will be missed, and from what I know your goal of being a good human being was accomplished quite well.

Bob

Without getting in to it Guy changed my life in a way nobody else has. I took a ice course from him in winter 85 i think. He saw me at the Junkyards in canmore and took me under his wing. I quite my rig job to tree plant for his crew and rock climb in Squamish. I eventually snatched the pebble from his hands but I owe him the life I have now which exceeds my wildest dreams.
I remeber him rousting me up at Prince Gaorge BC to be a witness at his and Marges wedding.
Guy I owe you a debt that I try to pass on when ever I can.
