Still gets crowded, but I'm not really complaining. Spooning with lady scarlett with zipped together bags in a tent does seem much more fun than with your climbing bud on that unplanned bivy because no one thought to pack a headlamp. For the record, for two dudes, is it more gay to be the inside spoon or outside spoon? You know, strictly a survival situation and all.

I'm hoping to remember the headlamp, or at least some matches, or to deploy the emergency lady-scarlett. Other than that, I guess the only reasonable solution is to rotate throughout the night.

She promised it was gonna be our secret.

This definitely works. I did a NOLS course years ago in northern MN and we slept in -20 degree weather using the 2 bag system with only tarps as shelter. I also highly recommend the hot water bottle technique. Boil some water, fill a nalgene, and wrap it with a wool sock, and stick it in the inner bag 30 min. before you're going to hit the hay. Then prepare for some serious hot water bottle cuddle time while you catch some z's.

I don't have a special signal light like Batman, but I do respond to specific smoke signals...though it has to be the right kind of smoke...puff puff! mmmmmm! I love deep breathes! stay warm out there! ls

Before you think this is a loop hole, make sure its ok, and this may not be a class you don't have to study for. I have had to do the most work, write papers do projects ect for my outdoor ed classes, I have my masters in Outdoor Education. On the loop hole most teachers have set the gear list for over all safety reason, most of the time there are people that can do it differently safely but you have to justify every thing to insurance. Its dumb I know, I have down the two bag technique and love it. But in most outdoor rec programs rules are rules just a heads up.

I also sleep with a fleece mummy inside a 15 deg. Marmot with OR Bivy sack and an old first generation inflateable therma rest. Just wash the fleece liner when you get home to keep your sleeping bag like new. Pillow = compression sack filled with what every you got.
