Fig-8 used as a rigging plate, with two pulleys used as re-directs...eh use what you have, glad it worked out. Stay safe Sir!

The 8 looks fine. The rig itself needs some work…. It looks like 2 of those lockers are not locked, the auto locking one should be gate facing up… rope running through one of the pulleys is in direct contact with the rope’s and webbing’s fixed ends causing direct friction on the isolated areas. Are they lowering the litter to rescue someone? Or is this just training?

The flaw in that system is not the Figure-8 as a rigging plate. I've considered doing the same, but couldn't figure out a way to use the geometry of an 8 to my advantage. It is, as has been pointed out, that you have two ropes running across each other, which is probably a side effect of the rigging location. Shield those as well as you can and you'll be a lot better off.

There's an image of a cross by the bottom hole; is that where I connect to Jesus?

From what I can see the rigging plate (Figure of Eight device) is merely there to hold the pulleys to aid the diversion of the main lines. The diversion does not have that great an angle to it so would not be placing that much strain on the system. If the eight failed, extremely improbable, most likely impossible, then the main lines would simply straighten out some. Elegant and simple if you ask me. Not that big a deal really. From memory a figure of eight breaks at something like 80kn. Hella strong enough to do this job.

The angle was last than 15 degree and ropes were crossing each other but it was not that critical so I asked one of the guys to fix it and he came up with that rig and it worked out well.
