So I've heard you can use a 'biner to open a beer bottle, but having tried it on my own, have absolutely no idea how to do so.. so anyone out here know how?

And, since we're on the topic, what kind do ya like?

Wiregates are easy. Ovals work pretty well.

Best way to do this? Grab your rack and a 12 pack. Lock all the bottle openers in another room.

Too easy, if you consider your nut-tool part of your rackWink

Same way you'd do it with a gas lighter, a knife handle, your mobile phone etc.

Grip bottle near top, almost covering the metal top, insert right angled piece of (whatever) between your fingers and the top, and lever. With practice you can do it with more or less anything. I think lighters are the easiest, but perhaps that's just cos I learned with them.

Wiregates are way easier than solid gates.

Okay, 2 questions......
1) where did you get a polo ball from!?Shocked
(I have never even seen a physical polo ball, let alone hold one....)
2) does that mean a pool/billiard ball would work better?

It was on a picnic table at redrocks. I would imagine that a pool ball would be equally difficult.

search youtube for how to open a beer with a lighter. once you get the technique down, you can do it with just about anything...the cell phone is a real crowd pleaser. any biner with a flat edge will be easiest.

It depends on how much glass you like with your beer.

While living in Germany I learned the using-another-beer trick... works best if the cap is still on (the one you're opening it with of course).

So would a volleyball.

Difficult....yes, but I think the chances might actually be better with a volleyballTongue

Grasp the bottle in a fist with the top of your hand flush with the bottom of the cap. Then place the biner in between the cap and your fist, continuing to apply pressure while using leverage to pop the top off.

I use those little biners that you get for your keys. After a while the biner will get pretty grooved. Don't use your "good" climbing biners unless you have to.

As stated above this works with lighters, knives or any thing else solid. Never broke a bottle.

it's funny that you're from W.Va., cause I'm from the Mountain State as well, and when I was in college, I knew a handful of people that could open bottles w/ thier teeth, and everybody could do the lighter trick. The biner thing is a bit harder, buts it's all in the angle I guess, good luckWink

&... guinness, sn pale ale, bells brews, modelo esp. con lima, heineken, grolsh, zywiec from the tap.

I use an old worn Attache that I keep on my keys. You put the nose on the top of the bottle and get the edge of the cap in the keylock hole of the gate. You just brace your finger against the gate and twist up. mmmm beer.

P.S. my favorite kind of beer is beer.

Bingo - first correct reply - all the rest are just using the brute force technique - not elegant it all.
