On January 9th, during the Ouray Ice Festival, Will is going to attempt to climb ice for 24-hours straight in an effort to raise money and awareness for the dZi Foundation.

It’s going to be an incredible event. If you are going to be at the Festival, come cheer him on at the upper bridge and chat with Steve House, Jack Takle and others as they belay Will from the top of Pick ‘O the Vic.
Will’s goal is to climb to the height of Mt. Everest from basecamp. If you cant make it, please visit the Web site http://www.endlessascent.org and pledge a penny per foot, or whatever you can give in support of the incredible work dZi is doing in Nepal.

Good cause, worthy of a bump.
If y'all haven't sent a couple dimes to the dZi Foundation, you should. Jim Nowak is a heck of a guy, he runs as fine a charity as I've ever seen, and the money you'd spend on a case of beer can help build a school instead.

I've climbed all of those long ice routes above the upper bridge, and doing 7 or 8 pitches in a day is enough to make me feel like I've had a hell of a work out... I cant even imaging doing pitch after pitch for 24-hours. Will is a freak of nature...

I was thinking the same thing: "24 hours on Pick of the Vic, Tangled Up in Blue, and Berserker?" My forearms and calves are crying by proxy.

I never met Will Gadd but I hear he is good. He also did something for me like no climber is ever done.

Defiantly cares about climbing communities in places no one ever heard of and I surely own him one. I know i will meet him one of these days to take him out to lunch or something.

yea, bumped into Jim Nowak here a couple months ago in columbia. he put on a presentation for us at the alpine shop here in columbia. not much climber turn out for the presentation though. great guy, great foundation. good luck will !

FYI: Watched and climbed with Will Gadd today, as he was doing some "training" laps for his upcoming event.
His "training" consisted of doing laps on Pick of the Vic in the Ouray Ice Park.
Pick of the Vic is just about 50 meters, WI4, and sustained near-vertical the whole way.
When I left the park at 4:30pm, Will had 30 pitches in. He was setting up to do 10 more using a self-belay.
Insane. The guy is insane.
I've been tasked with being Belay Bitch Sunday morning, 2am-4am.

Just an FYI:
Pick of the Vic is 145 feet of WI 4.
When I left this evening, Will Gadd had done 88 laps on this route. That was around 10pm or so.
88 * 145 = 12760 feet of climbing.
In 10 hours.
Yeah.
Not too late to swing by www.endlessascent.org and drop a couple dimes to the dZi Foundation.
Some anonymous donor at the ice festival tonight has promised $100 a lap during the last hour. Just saying.

Final tally: 194 laps, ~ 28,000 feet of vertical ice in a day. Sea level to just shy of the summit of K2.
