I'm 53 and have been climbing since I was 18 months old and that was when I climbed the clothes hoist out the back yard. My mum found me up the top of the clothes line with me blanky and me bottle.

31 and climbing for 3 and a half. I wanted to climb for at least five years before I started, but didn't know anyone else who climbed. One day I walked into a climbing gym and asked how people start if they don't know anyone and got signed up for an intro class. Now I rope solo a lot, 'cause I still don't really know anyone that climbs.

I initially said 47, 28... but I recall a few scare-fests as a kid, including one at Ralph Stover in the winter. Scrambled up an icy gully -- finished after dark. (Hey, I was *just like* Steve House!) Anyway, even as a dumb kid, I remember thinking that I should get some qualified instruction.....

I am 54 y/o and formally started climbing when I attended the Voyageur Outward Bound School in Ely, MN in the summer of 1971 and we climbed at Carlton Peak. Have been climbing for 37 years and am glad that the pitches still continue.

So far it looks like the average age is 36.2 and the average number of years climbing is 13.8. Average ratio of years climbing to age is 0.35...

60 and a bit. Started in 1967 then gave up in 82 when I found myself travelling a lot for work, and no partners, so started soloing, became hooked and decided that if I didn't stop I was going to die. Started up again about 4 years ago. Am now back up to leading 5.10a and TR ing a little bit harder. I never stopped being a climber. I just stopped climbing. Climbing is a sport for all ages, you can do as much(hard) or as little (easy) as you wish. People don't stop climbing because they die, they die because they stop climbing. (Borrowed this from somewhere, apologies to the creator)
