I year or two back I remember hear that some people said that Petzl's Zepher rope had some durability issues. Does anybody know if these got worked out or will the sheath still ware through quickly? I saw one on sale and like the looks as far as the numbers go.

All I know is that I still see powdered sheath in the wild with some regularity, and the ropes are invariably Petzls. They may be older ropes, though, so I can't speak to any new ropes they're putting out. GO

Thats not true- there was a known issue with the Zephyr, the sheath tended to slough off if it was part of the bad batch of yarn that they used, although Petzl never officially owned up to it. It wasnt every rope, but it was certainly around- I knew several people who had their ropes fall apart shortly after purchase. That said, one would hope that years after this occurred, the problem has been fixed and the rope is good to go. I havent heard of any problems with the Zephyr recently if thats worth anything.
