a package like that could be great for some alpine simulclimbs... if they would market it for that.

Using a mismatched pair will cause undue wear on the ropes, exposing you to a higher risk of rope failure. They can be used singly in certain situations (such as basic glacier climbs and traverses) where the risk of severe falls is absent. I really have to wonder how many knuckleheads are going to buy this package and take it out top roping or lead climbing? UM read the BIG BOLD LETTERS JUST UNDER THE PRODUCT. or here I can post it

mountain walking... yeah thats about what the alpine climbs in the cascades are like. very little climbing, a lot of hiking and scrambling around on ridges. i was just thinking a 30m rope double up as twins would have been good when I hiked 3 fingered jack... and the lighter alpine harness would have been easier to pack in and out.

Actually Petzl does not recommend the use of a single twin rope for any application. For glacier travel they recommend the use of a single rope or a single half rope. I would side with that recommendation.

I would side with that recommendation. In spite of Petzl's recommendations, I wouldn't mind using it for lower-angle situations were a fall is unlikely, and, if it happens, unlikely to be severe.

Agreed. Especially considering most glacier travel in the cascades fits that bill to a T. I used to take one of my 8.1 twins (60m) and bust out the mountaineers coil on either end, bring the rope down to about 20M. I did that all the time, depending on how the rest of the climb was.

I wonder how much time spend worrying about what others are doing. Maybe you can use that time to climb more and worry less about others.
