my buddy just bought a pair of degrees and was wondering what crampons for vert ice will fit. i know my m-10's do not fit as the toe bail fits narrower boots.

I used to have a pair of Degrees and they fit all the crampons I tried on them. I used Hyper Harpoons but I tried my friends Petzls and BDs and they fit just fine. They were size 13 and were too big so I sold them but I never had a problem with getting crampons on them.

I have a pair of Degree's and I'm currently using a Cassin crampon with toe bail. I've never heard of problems with the m-10's bail before nor have I ever tried them on my Degree's, but I have used several other kinds without any problems.

My husband (who has fairly big feet) has had slight problem with the bails on his Sabertooths not being wide enough. In all seriousness, he used to use the hammer on his tool and bash it to fit. Lots of people have to make adjustments like this to their crampons. As long as the M10s fit otherwise then these crampons would probobly work for your friend (tell him to buy his own though).

I use them with Grivel F2, no problem... But I think those crampons have been out of the market for quite a while. I assume they'll work with the Grivel G12 or G14 equally well.

thanks to everyone for the replies. i think the newer m-10's (mine are 3 years old)have a narrower toe bail. i think he's going to go with the m-10's and swap in a grivel toe bail.

It is a bit tricky. There is no norm for the sole of the boot. So you need to try first the crampons on to be 100% sure. Ciao, E

My buddy has a pair of degrees and I think he was using Camp superfangs on them. Not to sure if they still make the superfang but they had great secondary points for steep ice. Not the best crampon if mixed is going to be your thing though.

One of my climbing partners uses the Degres with the M10s. He is a pretty stout dude. Actually, considering how big he is, the stuff he leads is unreal. Your friend should be OK with the M10s in terms of fit, and it's ok to beat up the toe bail until it fits.
