I've got a brand new PMI EZbend Static rope to use for top-rope anchors. After a total of about 8-10 climbs on one route, I noted significant abrasion to the sheath. It was not going over particularly sharp edge. The edge probably had a 3" radius. (Think of it like running rope over a 6" diameter sewer pipe) My impression is this damage is excessive. See attached. Thoughts?

Meh. I wouldn't call it "excessive", just normal. You just happen to have your rope sitting on a spot that had a crystal or sharp edge (no matter how small it may have been). If you're worried about it next time just pad the edge with any number of available rope protectors. [edit for spelling/correction]

standard wear. You loaded the same spot of that rope on the same sharp/rough spot several times. Good news is that it's no big deal and the chances of the exact same spot getting loaded again soon are small.

After using EZBend for over a year... Bottom line; this rope damages 3 to 5 times faster than Bluewater. You absolutely don't want to buy it. Mine will get retired in a fraction of the time of my partner's Bulewater. STAY AWAY. |

If you want something that will last, get a New England Ropes KMIII static rope, those things can take a serious beating.
