Begun my new rack...Whats next?

So I have a somewhat descent beginners rack, I just don't know what else to add, so here is what I have so far:
1-60m rope
6-quickdraws
23-stoppers(micro to large)
BD Camalots .5-3
7- locking biners
4 non-locking biners(turned into 2 alpine draws)
1-Metolius equalizer
assorted webbing and cordolette

I am not sure of what else is needed excpet more carabiners and slings. How many slings should I buy and what sizes?
Any other suggestions would be great.

But back to your question, where do you climb most?
From what i see it looks like your rack is off to a great start, you might what doubles in some but again depends on where you climb

1. Do a search.

2. You have enough gear to climb lots of routes.

3. You should decide what to get next based on what gear is needed for the type of routes you climb the most. Ergo, we can't really answer this question in the abstract.

4. You are going to die.

5. For real.

6. Length and number of slings depends on the length of your average pitch and how wandering vs. straight it is. But if it were me I'd put together about four more trad draws. And maybe get a couple four foot slings.

Looks like you're short on non-locking biners. BUT BEFORE YOU RUN OUT AND BUY ANYTHING MORE

Pay attention to what others have said. Where do you climb? What do you climb? How do you climb it? How do you protect it?

Try some things with what you have, and you'll get an idea for what you need.

My guess would be more draws, maybe some extendable ones, or maybe just some longer ones, or maybe then just some more quickdraws. Why have 21 nuts if you can only place 6, right? And climbing on a single ropes generally wants more extension anyways so...

Other then that, whatever you've been thinking "shit, I placed that piece already" bout the most, double up on that.

It sounds like you have a major shortage of slings, but you may not actually need more if all you climb is splitter cracks. Get a bunch more slings. Maybe 4 1 foots and 2 more two foots to start off. If you think you need a 4 foot sling or two, get one. Don't forget to get biners for all of these. Get light ones. It is better to buy nice than twice.

If you get out an use it a bunch you'll figure out what you want next. Though I'll admit that you seem to be lacking in the shoulder length runner department.

Also, try to get out and climb with people with more experience than you a bit. Ask questions, keep your eyes open. There's lots to learn and they might have gear that you covet.

Actually, that's probably the most useful thing she's ever posted on this site.

You have plenty of hardware. Maybe a couple more extendable draws would be in order. But... you'll figure it out.

That's a lot of stoppers.

Definitely more non-lockers.

Some small cams like TCUs if you'll need them in your area.

Maybe a second rope if you'll be rapping off. Otherwise, climb on, you will quickly figure out what you need, and what you have but don't really need.

Well my rack is very similare to what you have except replace 12 of those stoppers with 2, 3, 4, meteoius TCUs and a few more extendablle slings, thats what I have.

Now go out and find a few routes and see what else you need. IE what piece are you placing alot and what are you wishing you had more of.
Then double up on those pieces.

Right now I would say you have a great start, play with it and see where improvemnet is needed.

Carabiners for racking and trad draws.

You'll also probably want some smaller cams.

But it's all dependent on where you climb and what size cracks you're most comfortable with. Get more in the sizes you're not as solid at.

Mileage will tell you the most. But runners will be your biggest deficit for the time being. Rope drag sucks!

Alright fuckers. I voted five stars to this post; it deserves five stars. A bunch of other cowardly people have reduced the vote to one star.

Please explain to me how the advice in this post is wrong. "Get experience before you try to compensate with consumerist buying power."

I'm waiting.

At least 4 more so called trad draws, a few tcus, and maybe double up on the 1 and 2 camalot.

You will then be set for a whole lotta california multipitch.

How are you racking your cams, gillmeister? Just curious?

7 lockers? Are you holding a locker festival?

23 stoppers? If that wasn't a typo, trade in half of them for a couple of TCUs.

So, I mostly climb in the Sierras(The Needles, Kern River area, Joshua Tree...). The reason for so many stoppers is due to the fact that my buddy sold me all of his old ones for 30 bucks, can't complain. So from you're guys' replies I believe I will just get on the wall more as soon as I am done with the semester. I have decided to just buy some varying sizes of slings and biners, and since I can't afford anymore cams or tcus, I will just have to keep placing stoppers. Regarding the question on how I rack my gear, I have my stoppers on 3 diff. carabiners(micro, medium, large), and then I just bring quickdraws and a few alpine draws. Most of the stuff I climb has been very basic(5.5 - 5.8) considering I don't have a mentor and am learning this on my own. Kinda makes the learning scarier and fun and feels satisfying.
Thanks for everyones replies, its been helpful.

Don't let anyone knock you for 23 stoppers...if you can climb a route with nothing but a bunch of stoppers and one or two cams you're on your way to being a salty trad climber my friend.

The only thing I highly suggest getting is a shit ton of wire gate non-lockers. You can never have enough and when your rack and the routes you climb start expanding you'll be thankful that you became a non-locker whore. Other than that, you have everything you need to tear up some routes.

Cheers

Yup - the regular cragging rack in the UK is a double set of nuts and a slim set of cams.

Maybe a set of C3s or TCUs and some more 24" runner.
