Hello! I am going to Japan in 2 weeks and was wondering if anyone knows or recommends any places to sport climb there?

Any information would be helpful thank you!

Where are you going? Tokyo? If so there is lots of climbing around here, get in touch with me or Bill_in_Tokyo and we can give you some pointers.

If you are sport climbing up to 5.9 as per your profile, Yugawara will probably be the best place for you near Tokyo. Ogawayama www.ogawayama.com is a bit further out and a bit more adventurous, but is the best climbing I know of in Japan.

Drop me an email if you want to talk more about it

cheers

I will be in Tokyo yes and hopefully traveling around on the rail pass. Are there any places to rent gear. I don't think i'll be bringing my own rope all the way to Japan.

Thanks for the info i'll check the location out. :)[

You can rent gear at the gyms for use there, but not elsewhere. You'll want to bring your own gear - or hook up with some of us over here if you don't want to bring your own ropes.

If you are going all the way there, but you don't want to bring your rope, that means that you don't want to climb all that bad.
I had a great day climbing at Horu-iwa outside of Kobe, but nothing that couldn't have been done back home. The experiences meeting people, and seeing things unique to Japan on the other hand, are irreplaceable.
