I just got stationed at FT Stewart (near Hinesville) and am trying to get back into climbing. When I was younger I climbed at Joshua Tree,Lucerne Valley and Lake Arrowhead in California but then I joined the Army and was stationed at FT Bliss, TX (El Pasp) and there is virtually no climbing there so I fell out of the loop. Basically, I'm wondering if theres any good routes nearby me? When I was climbing in CA I was doing a strong 5.9 and the occasional 5.10 but now I'm probably down to no more than a 5.6ish

Hueco Tanks is just down the road from El Paso. You had the Franklin Mountains as well. But Hueco Tanks...you didn't seek the opportunity. If I live that close to great climbs, I would be out there almost everyday.

While I was there hueco tanks was closed to climbing and the Franklin mountains are but dirt hills in 95% of the place with not much rock on them suppposedly hueco tanks opened again but I was kind of in a big old sandbox for the last year and a half. I honestly could care less about El Paso now, want some climbing in southern Georgia / south Carolina

I was going mention New Mexico, but thats too late. I have never climb in Georgia, but I hear good things about Stone Mountain. I have bouldered at HP40 in NE Alabama and supposely about an 1 hr from there are some good sport and trad climbing.

Not sure what your definition of nearby is-- I think the closest climbable stuff you'll find are the small boulder fields around Macon. If you want routes you'll have to drive at least a half day. I think for the easy to moderate grade routes, the closest will be Curahee and Yonah. The Army actually trains up on Yonah, so you'll be in good company.
