Black Diamond rope tarp

Saw a guy with a real minimalistic rope tarp made by BD. Had ends you could tie the rope off with and not much more, thin whitish. I think he said he got it when he bought a BD pack, came with it.

I haven't been able to find any rope tarp made by BD, anyone know what this is or where to get it?

Any other comparable minimal rope tarps you can recommend?

I want something for times when I stuff the rope in my bag, and am not using a separate rope bag.

thank you

IKEA has these big plastic bags that act as really good rope bags/tarps, too.

Two cheap options:

1) Cloth/canvas tote bag.

2) Buy a piece of nylon (or other fabric) from fabric/sewing store. Hem the edges, include a drawstring if you want. (I actually use this as a shoe changing "area" on muddy days.)

The ones made out blue poly plastic tarp? Those are awesome. Great for tossing wet clothes into after a river run, too, so they don't soak the carpet in the shuttle car.

Edit: here it is. http://www.ikea.com/...og/products/17228340

Try this out, it seems very, very multipurpose. http://climbingholdreview.blogspot.com/...iew-pusher-sack.html

Also, what you're looking for is called the "slacker", which is just what BD calls their rope bag.

If you looking for a purpose built rope tarp (like the thin ones with 2 tie in points that come attached to metolius or BD rope bags) Your best bet would be to fish around for one of those used, and cut out the tarp.

Personally though, I like the looks of that Ikea bag

i've got an ABC rope tarp that is quite literally just that (tarp + buckles for closure). i don't ever use it. PM/email address and i'll be happy to send it your way if you want to pay shipping from NC to where you are (which i would assume would only be a few $).

[edit: it has points to tie the rope as well]

Yup, those ones. And you really can't beat the price. $0.59 -- probably the cheapest piece of gear you'll ever buy for climbing. :)

I'll +1 the ikea bag.

But to answer your question, the rope tarp probably came from a BD BOA duffel. Especially if the tarp had orange tabs.

The most common thing I've seen used are just blue plastic tarps. You can get them in surprisingly small sizes. I personally use the one attached to my metolius rope bag. The next pack I get is going to be the mountain hardware splitter.
http://www.mountainhardwear.com/...66&viewAll=False
its got everything!!!!
sorry, i just realized this was way off subject. yeah, any burly cloth or tarp works just fine. unless your one of those name brand climbers whose draws all have to match and you wont climb with any cam other than c4's and c3's, in which case I would suggest embroidering a BD logo onto a blue plastic tarp.

I have one that came with my Black Diamond bag.
While it's useful, the only thing that makes it "unique" is the dyneema (or something) loops in the corners for attatching to the rope or bag (or both). You can buy a regular tarp and have put the loops on yourself.

Or get this, it's a billion times more awesome. If i didn't already have a bag i really like, i'd be on it:

http://climbingholdreview.blogspot.com/...iew-pusher-sack.html

Etc.

thanks everyone for the ideas and great information.

I'll check out the ikea bag that's my style, simple and cheap. I like the other suggestions too and thanks for clearing up what BD pack the rope tarp i was talking about ships with.

cheers

I didn't read all the responses so sorry if someone already said this.

I got a sleeping bag tarp (thats what it said on the bag) from an REI garage sale for $2.83. Its perfect, it's the right size and its really light weight/durable.

It also has little tabs where something is supposed to hook into (if it were a tent tarp, it would be the tabs that have the grommets to put the poles in, I don't know what you hook in them with a sleeping bag) and you could tie the ends of the rope to that. I tend to just coil my rope and fold up the tarp real small.

Ikea bag is good. Or a picnic tablecloth from the 99 cent store and sew some loops on.
