Some of that gets quite detailed haha, but I agree that a thumbs up/thumbs down system is probably best. Not to mention leik totally retro right now. I also support the idea of being able to see who ranked what in the forums, the same functionality is in place with the articles, where you can view who rated it- a similar thing would be kind of good in the forums, allowing to spot abuse as you say. Not sure on the practicality of implementing it or anything, but it is an interesting idea.

I agree about the binary nature of the one stars. I think there should be thumbs up, thumbs down, and then a netted score displayed next to the post. I think weighting the stars would be problematic and wouldn't really accomplish anything. If USNavy is following you around with one stars, I can't say you didn't bait him into it.

Is he deliberate in his one stars, or does he just one star you when he comes upon one of your posts.

adatesman wrote: Yup, that he did. Several times, in fact. My wife balances out some of them and other people catch some of the others, but a lot get left with the 1star. Quite annoying, as I'm sure you're aware given your own problems with this. What's even more annoying is that as a Mod I can see my average post rating, and have been watching it slowly creep downwards because of him being an ass. My advice to you would be to not worry about it. What is my average star rating? I would get a kick out of that.

lol adatesman is complaining that I am one staring his posts too much? The real question is why in all hell do you care? Its the Internet dude. Why don't you tell the class how you spend an entire day one staring my 1500 posts? You complain that I am following you around one staring your posts then you one star EVERY one of my posts and misquote me in your signature. Dude get off my nuts, you are like the girlfriend I dumped two years ago that still shows up at my house after work.

It sounds like you are also abusing the system. If US Navy says something stupid then one star him up, but it is counter productive to do it to everything.

I agree with most of your suggestions. Re: UsNavy, be the bigger man and/or just geddafukkoverit. Put the bone down and go back to your kennel, and he just might go back to his. If not, well, he generally gets anything up to 10 people giving him 1 star per post. You're well ahead. It's all relative.

I'll toss in another vote for "thumbs up/down" as to rating posts -- I don't think the star system is really effective.

I agree that trophies and poo, or thumbs up/ down is a better solution. I also agree that transparency as to who is voting how is key to giving the rating any real validity. I am hesitantly supportive of post ratings leading to some sort of rating for the respective poster. maybe combine this with some sort of user title like tho old days of boardmonkey, traddie, etc... Lastly, Aric, you are giving USNavy too much credit. He isn't worth your energy.

It's almost like you have a certain person in mind.

Jay The weird thing is that I am pretty sure that even the mods can't see who rates what. Without transparency, it is a pretty useless system and should either be fixed or done away with.

I also think that going back to a thumbs up/thumbs down (trophy/poo) system would be better. If anybody bothers to rate a post, they probably feel compelled one way or the other to do so. Who the hell rates a post three stars out of five anyway? Curt
