Anyone seen the photo 'the small roof'? I don't want to see that guy falling... (Or do I? ) The rope goes behind his his leg, so if he falls at that point, he turns upside down and might fall with his head on the rocks. And all that without a helmet... What do you think?

what's the title of the photo & what section/area/route is it from? The gallery has more than 600 pics so could you be more specific (page # in gallery)?

If you look closley you will notice the larger rope that follows the outline of the rock. The rope easily visible is a load line to haul junk up after. I think it says that in the description.

Sorry I was thinking of a different photo here is a link to the photo I believe you are talking about http://www.rockclimbing.com/photos.php?Action=ListPhoto&PhotoID=1835 I agree, this is a very dangerous position. , unless the camera was held at a funny angle or something, but from the description it sounds like the route is vertical.

I learned good rope management when climbing the hard way. I got rope burn on my forearm and leg when I first started leading from a fall. You know what this resulted in? Leading easy stuff and becomming very cautious of how to have the rope in different body angels and situations. Now I don't get in situations where if I fall the rope is going to give me burns, or make me flip upside down.

Judging that he has no trad gear on his harness, I would think that it would be bolted right above the roof. So I think it is just hidden from view. rrrADAM

Okay, rrrAdam, I just tried using the magic search engine, that pianomahnn is always giving me grief over, to look up "the small roof" to see if I could locate this picture. The result? 294 locations. Would you mind adding one of your famous links here so I don't have to go through all 294 to figure out which one Bart is talking about? Jim

Ummm, look up a few replies, Biff posted it I think. And the RC.com search engine is better to search the forums. It can be accessed from the any Forum page below the Top Navigation Bar. [ This Message was edited by: rrradam on 2001-11-12 19:02 ]

I kinda get the feeling that he's humping an anchor... even if he's not, if he's able to kick his foot out, I think he'd be ok. But, yah, it's a precarious position.

Ahhh, no helmet either. I guess you can't sustain a head injury on bolted routes. I might have to try that...splat. No, I will keep my brain bucket on at all times. TRADitionally yours, Addiroids
