In reply to: DOVER, N.H. — A New Hampshire high school student shocked so severely in shop class that his heart stopped beating is suing his teacher, the school district and the city of Dover. Kyle Dubois and his parents claim teacher Thomas Kelley did not warn Dubois and other students of the dangers of the electrical demonstration cords in their electrical trades class. On March 11, Dubois attached an electrical clamp to one nipple while another student attached another clamp to the other. A third student plugged in the cord. Dubois was critically injured. The New Hampshire Union Leader says Dubois' suit contends he suffered permanent brain damage. Kelley resigned from his teaching position about a month after the incident. He declined to comment on the lawsuit. http://www.google.com/...lJct9qRiIHwD9HUGNT01

Seem like it'd be hard to prove there was any brain to damage in the first place. Sometimes I really hate the US of A.

Quick question for my American friends here... If I were to come to your great country and drink a big cup of drano from a clogged sink, could I sue the plumber who had it in my house for not warning me about the dangers of drinking unknown chemicals in my kitchen sink? Hrm... I might be on to something here.

Draino cans have a warning on them. That might affect the suit...unless, of course, you maintain you can't read. (I'm sure we could find some RC.comers like that).

Heh. Dover is just down the street from me; I lived there for 6 years. I heard about the incident and the teacher resigning, the follow up lawsuit was inevitable. When I was teaching woodshop I had a student stick his hand into a grinder to see what would happen. Guess what? He saved 10% on manicures for the immediate future.

Unfortunately, the way the system is set up it's easier (and cheaper) to just settle than hire a lawyer and go to court, so the dumbass and his dumbfuck parents will probably get their cash in the end.

Remember: Every time you read a disclaimer or warning label, it was put there because of cases like this.

I'm surprised PTC hasn't visited yet. This thread is right up his alley: disbelief in evolution, Jesus, and references to masturbation.
