Dude, Not exactly smooth and fluid! You may want to rethink your soloing career until you become a better climber...and then rethink it again! Please don't take a digger. Climb safe. AB

The riverside quarry is not a good place to be soloing. The granite there was revealed after blasting had been done for years. The reason Jay is saying this is because the rock and cracks are WAY EXPANDO and tons of loose rock. I haven't climbed there for years, but I went there because it was a great place to practice aid climbing and nailing on expando scary shit. While I understand your excitement for having solo'd your first route, you REALLY picked a bad place to do it. For your own sake, and the sake of your family and friends, don't do that there again. There are much better places to do this like josh.

I get antsy reading this... don't want to feel like I'm part of thinning the herd. I had a partner do an easy free solo, then blow off while leading a route with no hanger on the first bolt. He got banged up, but was still able to walk out after I cleaned up the scrapes and gouges. He was responsible for himself on the free. By belaying him on a route with no protection for 30 feet, I was taking an active part in a blatantly unsafe undertaking. You never plan to fall doing a stunt, but shit happens. These things stay with you, and with him, I suspect.

Looking pretty sketchy there on 5.6 - I'd advise you to not push your luck. Curt

Stop now! You are doing it for the wrong reasons. Your head is not where it needs to be. I have been known for a bit of soloing, so I'm not going to knock the pastime. But you sir do not understand what you are doing. You sir do not yet know what it is all about. You sir are looking for trouble and you are going to get it if you continue. If you do not comprehend what I am saying, then it is only proof to yourself that you simply should not be attempting it.

Soloing at the quarry is nothing short of asking for something really bad to happen. I climb here frequently, please don't ruin this place for the rest of us by getting yourself killed here. Go stroke your ego somewhere else. -Ian

Pug, at the risk of seeming harsh... I suggest you not ignore these two links. I see similarities between your video and the one of the PA pancake guy. The jittery legs, the tentative upward progress, the frantic looking around for the next bit, plus the mad dash through easier terrain past the crux... all of it says you were about as far from relaxed as it was possible to be. I'll stop shy of telling you not to solo. That would be hypocritical. But I will tell you, as somebody who has also spent some time ropeless, that in the video you posted your headspace is horrible. If I were climbing like you were climbing, I'd have bailed after the first ten feet. Maybe you ought to read up on it some, ya know? Learn the philosophies of the people who were best at it (many of whom are dead, BTW). And definitely -- definitely -- think twice about ever posting videos of it again. Regardless of your actual motivation, people will almost always perceive you, not as fearless, but as in over your head and proud of it -- the very definition of a gumby.

Pug: I know you are not getting the kind of feedback (and Pat on the back) that you expected here, but here is another thought. When I see your Video, I see someone climbing without a rope, not someone free soloing... The grace and calm is missing. Watch your own video. Does it look like a very good climber, totally in control, only possibility of failure beeing rock failiure (which, from what I've read is not unlikely)? We all love climbing, so try to KEEP climbing. Cause Climbing is difficult when you are in a wheelchair or six feet under. Cheers, iknowfear PS: replying to J_ung cause the OP deleted his posts.

Is this a whole new level of quoting we need to do? Not only hold their post in posterity, but any associated YouTube videos as well?
