In the context of climbing I call myself a climber. I don't specialize.

I haven't had to refer to myself in any general context since nobody has ever asked me "What are you?". Actually that's wrong, when I've been asked that the answer has usually been "a physicist" since it's usually a science and trivia related situation.

Toast liked this one the best. Toast also refers to himself in the third person pseudonym.

is not how I "refer myself as" that matters

most importantly, what others think of me should be my concern.

I am just a climber.
Depending on the season and if someone asked Ill get more specific as to what I am climbing/style.
The Water falls are freezing well here, so this weekend I will be an ice climber. For thanksgiving weekend I will be a trad climber. get the picture...

There are climbers and there are people who climb. Do not confuse these two.

Bouldering is "Practice",
Sport Climbing is neither,
Trad is Rad,
Ice and mixed are the doorstep to the Bold and Cold,
Alpine is King.

I didn't see that one on the list.

That's because you don't have mountains in MN.

Yeah, you are probably right.
When i had the pleasure with your mother, she told me you where rather bad ... Crazy

On a more serious note:
So this poll asks how i refer to myself in general?
Like in "real life" general?

If so, yes, i do sometimes refer to myself as climber, when i talk to people, and the talk is about pastime/ hobbies, and if neccessary, i specify (mostly sport, alpine, bouldering, gym, trad and ice), but i am not starting every conversation with "new people" with "hello, i am a climber!".
Depending on the situation, i am a student, a geologist, a junior consultant, a (various specifications)- nerd, an idiot, or just simply myself.

I'd like to refer to myself as a climber, since it's my main interest. I think, however, that I'm more "a person who climbs" than a "climber", per se.

As to what kind. Roughly, over the last year I divided my climbing something like this:

- Ice 30%
- Trad 25 %
- Toprope 15% (incl. rope solo)
- Sport 5%
- Gym 25% (TR/Boulder/Lead, 50/40/10%)

So, what do you think I should call myself?

I'm just a "rock climber" if I need to refer to myself in the context of climbing. I hate polls that seem to leave out an important choice. Or did I just miss that one.

Given that you're in the context of "climbing," saying that you're a "rock climber" is rather vague. Sure, it means you mostly climb outside, but that's still pretty vague and doesn't convey any new information, given the context you described.
