Hi, I'm new to rockclimbing.com. I'm putting together a trad rack. I received 6 12 cm draws for christmas. should I keep them for trad? Do they have a place? Or should I sell them for sewn slngs?

Quickdraws are generally considered inferior to sewn slings for trad climbing. The fear is that they will transmit more rope movement to the pro (because they are stiffer), and either dislodge it or cause it to walk. Sewn slings can also be more versatile.

I usually carry a couple when I trad climb, but mostly I use "trad draws."

Keep them, it only 6 of them. I find that quick draws are faster than adjustable slings
I reserve quick draws only for bomber stopper and hex placements that are not going to pull or walk out of place.

I almost allways have sport draws with me on gear routes. If all I have are sport draws, then that's fine. Same if all I have are trippled slings, but I prefer to have a mix of trippled slings and sport draws. Use what you have, if you find you need someting else, then pick it up as you go.

Keep them if you like them, but pay attention to what Bill said. It's a valid concern, especially for a new leader.

^^^^ Smile

Keep em. 6 draws is not enough for a trad rack so go and buy some more trad draws.
I always have a mix of sport and trad draws.
