It doesn't cost the clickers anything extra, so I don't know if "warning" is the right word. It's a little sneaky, but it doesn't harm anyone, after all.

In my view, "a little sneaky" is understating it. It creates a conflict of interest for him, and has the potential to harm the quality of posts here via spammed affiliate links. E.g. I could probably make a few bucks by posting theclymb links here every time they refresh their deals, whether they're worthwhile or not. If he had disclosed the fact that he was making money off his post or offered a non-money-grubbing link, I'd be okay with that. </soapbox>

Every "deal" is subject to our own personal evaluation and we aren't going to necessarilly have the same opionion as to what's good vs. what's great. The two links also end up at the same place and the same price. Could he have said "Btw, if you use this link as opposed to the generic link, I get a $10 credit for everyone who signs up when a new member purchases an item."? Sure, but it wasn't like the deal was bad or it added to the cost. Edit to clarify how you earn credit. BTW, the "deal" is 50% off a pretty large selection of GO-Lite Products...

It does create a conflict in interest. When there is money to be made, people tend to hype up how good something is or hype up everything. That is why I trust friends advice on products way more than any advertisement. If retailers or people who make money on links keep posting (which they have every right to), the overall quality of the thread diminishes. In fact I usually trust a random post on a deals thread more than an advertisement, which advertisers are catching onto. I personally would prefer it if the advertisers stay to the bar on the right, rather than going in and posting as if they were a consumer who found a good deal.

Steep and Cheap is selling Gri-Gris (no, not the version 2) for $62 shipped. You have 10 minutes.... Also, it may reappear in the future as these things sometimes do, so you might get a second chance. if you missed this one. Sorry if this is a silly thing to post, given the crazy short time frame.

These guys are a "brick and mortar" in Boston. They carry a lot of stuff, discount most everything, and are having an additional 15% (use code MCH311) off sale until the 3/20. http://hiltonstentcity.com/...ary/arcteryx-all.htm

I've bought from them in the past. They are in a small street right near the TD Banknorth Garden. Go check them out. Edit to add: just drove up there at lunch and walked out with an Atom LT for $135.95. It looks just like it did the last time I was in there - two small floors jammed with all kinds of gear. Sort of like a 1950's hardware/Army-Navy store only with outdoor clothing and gear.
