I am just starting to get into top roping outside. I have been in the gym and plan on taking an anchor's class soon. I was wondering what would you say the best rope to get for a top rope? Maybe a top couple choices or 5! Thank you for your help!

Maybe pay attention that you dont get it too thin (ø>9.8mm), and thats it. If you plan to use it for other stuff, it might be different, but for toproping only ... qwert

i have a mammut eiger rope. 10.5mm x 60m long, i picked this rope cause i like the color and it was on clearance at REI, I also had a gift card for REI. needless to say, I got the cheapest 10.5 I could find. it's my first rope so i'm sure i'm gonna trash the crap out of it very quickly. also i liked the specs it had for how much i paid for it, $100 out the door

whatever is 10-10.5 mm ... 60m ... or 70m if you have longer climbs in your area ... dynamic, uiaa certified and CHEAP .... no need for dry treatment as that will wear off anyways youll destroy it top roping anyways ... so did i mention CHEAP

If you really are only going to be top roping off bolts or tree anchors, you can save money by buying a static rope. I have a PMI static rope that use to set top ropes for friends to climb. Now if you think you might get into leading before buying a new rope then by all means go dynamic. But in all honesty, a static rope will work fine for top roping and will take more abuse than a similar dynamic rope.

I would say "get the biggest assed ( 11mil), cheapest, RATED rope you can find. If you do not know what I mean by "Rated", don't buy it yet, you still need some edumaction. Remember the first rule is to be safe, only your brain can get that for you.
