...I love it when I'm out in the public talking to my friends about climbing and the words that we use just make the people's faces around us have the wierdest expressions. Like when you say jug or sloper...sometimes it's really funny! or even when your talking to your non-climber frinds! anyone have any funny stories or fav. phrases? peace! ROCK ON! ~*Kira*~

My favorite is when you say you're going to climb at your friend's woody. I don't think about it until everybody freaks out...

canrocker, you better not let rrradam hear you say that... Ladies and Gentlemen, THE KING OF ROCK & ROLL, Elvis Presley! is one of my partners favorites but non-climbers usually don't hear that one. "Dude, forget how sketched ya are and skate on up to the mongo hueco, make the clip, slide left to the shelf, throw the heel and crank the mantle and its bomber jugs to the top. Now SEND it!" duskerhu

'hard' and 'light' are universally applicable, in my little world... turned several non-climbers on to the useful properties of those.

"dude, you gotta deadpoint from this mankous tweaker to a hideous half pad crimper, fire in some pro, lieback the chossy expando flake, the whole time feeling like you're gonna pitch, sketch for the slopey rail, press out the mantle , get a knee scum, crank the crystal, smear the nubbin, don't grease and you're on the next bucket for a good shake and a sweet nut placement."

What's funny is when your talking the talk to a nonclimber and they are nodding the head all the time you know they don't understand a word your saying and so I go on and on and on.

Yeah, if you told a nonclimber that the rock is hard, but that she should climb on so you can beLAY her, she'd probably slap you in the face too.

I had just borrowed a full set of nuts and hexes from a mate at work. As I was leaving I said to another climbing friend that I was "off to play with Craigs' nuts" and "Do you wanna come". To this day I still get strange looks from some of my work mates.

Climbing is full of them... Various sexual implications regarding cracks, lingo such as chickenheads and aliens and Big Bros. I won't even get into the variety of types of pitons (bongs, peckers...) And to top that all off, there's Smiley's Wedgies. But many other disciplines share their own lingo. Mathematicians, soldiers, doctors, programmers, musicians, surfers... It's truly amazing how fast one can become adept at spitting out lingo yet how clueless one can be when first introduced to such lingo.

Ya kira! all the way! Sometimes, when we're talking with our friends, climbers and non, and we're talking about particular move or a route, the climbers are on the edge of their seats, and the non-climbers are almost asleep. Then they say "shut up and talk about something we understand! (mockery) 'I dynoed up to this mondo jug and I campused from there to the ledge. My arms were really pumped, but I mantled up to the ledge. From there, I traversed over to these crimpers and squeezed them all the way up.' (/mockery) What the hell is this supposed to mean?" That's what they say. Made up words- -crackage -to do a "Scott" (when you push off from the wall at the bottom while descending and you land on your belayer's head) -sandpapery -callousness -etc. (edited to clarify) [ This Message was edited by: millersqu on 2002-12-31 15:12 ]
