I'm not into indoor climbing or competitions, or even bouldering except as training for the real thing, but it looked like everyone was having fun so I'm OK with what I just saw.

just sayin, I am not a fan of artificial climbing. gives people the wrong idea about the sport. Pulling money from the wall, while creative, is a bit contrived.

Wow! I can't believe what climbing has come to this!!!! I never thought that rap music would infiltrate the climbing community like that.

On the other hand, calling rock climbing a sport would give people the wrong idea about what many climbers calling, simply, "a passion." You see, we all get different enjoyment out of it. Live and let live. Think of how weird all rock climbers look to some people, and how weird we think others are for not enjoying it. Live and let live, I guess.

I'm not sure what I'd do if there weren't enough people to look down on and/or ridicule, so I'm all for it.

If someone who knew nothing about climbing watched that video and then watched this one http://www.dpmclimbing.com/...my-webb-flashing-v12... which one do you think they would understand? My bet is they would totally get why people were going crazy trying to get up the artificial wall to get money and after watching Graham and Webb they would just ask "why didn't they just walk up the back of the boulder? And what's up there that they want to see so bad?

This is not what climbing has become to, but rather what one indoor bóuldering competition has become too, and while i dont neccessarily see the future of that sport in such a competition, i must say it is quite a creative idea. + the running start is just awsome. Gotta steal this idea when i go bouldering next time. The problems just start when idiots think that everything that they see in the comp/pro circus has to be brought outside, in the nature, but no one is that stupid … qwert

majid_sabet wrote: I love to see how these indoor climbers perform in real outdoor climbing wall I would guess most would perform quite well, unless you put them on endurance routes (unless they also climb plastic routes too). Personally i used to loathe indoor climbing and especially bouldering, but somehow i starded it anyhow, "just for training" during winter. turns out it acutally started to be fun, and yes, it was training. Obviously all those "weird" moves you can pull on plastic arent worth much outdoors, but generally it mostly makes you stronger. I even am a better alpine climber, thanks to plastic. You only cant train your head indoors qwert

You do realize that the guy who has won this the last 2 years is one of only 4 Americans who has climbed 5.15 on US soil - or rock more precisely. That would be outdoor rock.

I think that if climbing changed to the point of it being people in cars driving around a track, some people would freak out and talk about how "the real thing" has devolved into some bastardization of the sport. Others would just call it car racing.

I actually do agree that it's a little lame. But people are having fun, pulling down hard, so whatever. I mean, compared to what some real climbers do*, what I do on my best day is also totally lame. I can own that and still be proud of my sad little accomplishments. But really, I do kinda wonder how much lower competition climbing can go. GO * For example - http://www.alpinist.com/...swire-vidal-naufragi
