As the folks here have made clear, climbing alone as a beginner is so dangerous that nobody wants to say anything that could be construed as encouraging that approach. Take that seriously.

All that being said, lots of places have safe access to bolt anchors where you can set up a top-rope and TR solo without it being too sketchy. You can easily search TR solo threads on here to see what people are using.

At this point in time he would be safer doing free solo. Sounds stupid i know.. but at least his primal instinct might show more sense, and make him back down at a safe height. Rather than the false assurance of being ''safe'' on a wrongly set up TR solo system.

Not that it matters, he is likely a troll anyway.

Of course this one is a troll. Anyone serious enough about the question would of already searched the information themselves and not post somewhere where climbers gather.

The funniest part of this is when this troll called people "self righteous" for speaking the truth. How much more self righteous can one be then to think they can do it all by them "self"? Laugh

Being voluntarily manipulated is new concept to me. Oh wait, modern society..

I'm quite confident that this is not a troll.

I taught my extremely noobish self to TR solo and despite Mr S' lack of social skills, I see now reason why anyone else should not be allowed to. While I certainly acknowledge that there are a number of things that you can't safely teach yourself, TR solo does not seem to me to be one of them. Aside from being very simple and intuitive to set up and check, the "falls" are tiny, and TR solo anchors off chains are super easy since the rope doesn't slide.

The way I figure it, Mr S with any of the standard TR solo methods will be safer than Mr S with his even more clueless friend belaying.

Don't listen to these haters. Self belaying is easy. All you need is a rope (any kind will do), a piece of webbing to tie into a swami belt, and a carabiner to put your clove hitch on. Oh, and make sure to tie back up knots. You can watch some videos on Youtube if you're having trouble, but you'll probably be able to figure it out as you go.

Thanks for the only real direction on a list and where too for info!!! MPG76 and BRYAN get it...Why the rest can't direct people to links and information without being all self righteous pisses me off...Now self belaying is what I wanted to be helped with instead of death jokes and sarcasm.

Who the f#$% cares what you want? Your mom doesn't work here.

And I will be posting on your accident analysis when it happens. I don't think it will take long, if - and this is highly unlikely - you're anything more then a rather unsuccessful troll.

Nice attempt, shitty execution. You really need to work on your technique....spend more time drawing people in before revealing that you're a lame ass basement dweller.

That's all the troll food you're geting from me, have a nice day.

Not exactly the answer I was looking for...A list of equipment would be alot better...

But I do appreciate your concern, however...Everything I've ever done has been self taught...

Sure I could go and give someone the little bit of hard earned money that I have to show me...I'd rather read read and read some more and watch some videos and take a cautious approach on my own...

The money I'd rather spend on the equipment to get me started ASAP.

So I know about the harness, Rope(what kind), but what about the other stuff that will get me climbing.

If you can read and speak you should be able to go to an climbing store and get what you need.

Or go visit the climbing area.Crazy
