Look into Paradox Sports as well. It's a great organization that brings disabled climbers into the spotlight. Fortunately for you, the founder frequents these forums and there are a few of their athletes who post here regularly. Good luck!

Good luck! +1 The folks at Paradox Sports are inspiring - both the climbers they work with and the volunteers who help facilitate things. With the number of soldiers returning with lost limbs and other significant injuries their work is even more important.

Nothing inspiring here. Im just a 42 year old fat dude looking to get into better shape. I will do more gym climbing then anything. I have lost about 40 lbs and im starting to do stretching to get to kinks out before I pay a membership. Will start hitting the gym toward the end of may. Im also building a hangboard to start working on strength in my wimpy arms. I'm around 180 without my leg on. 5'10" height.

You are definitly not as fat as you could be. 180 is not bad. 160-170 is lean. On another note, are there any legs that you have looked into that are a bit more suitable for climbing.

Well, 160-170 is lean if you have two legs. Nevertheless, 1leg, welcome to the show. Go go get some. Definitely check out Paradox. Short answer is yes. Long answer is it starts with a conversation between the user and his prosthetist, and then you decide what type of foot works best. Mal has a bucket o' feet for that very reason. 1, there's actually a paradox rock event coming up at shelf road in a few, if you can make it, that would be the BEST way to get in deep, it sounds like this event is going to be great. Unfortunately I'm stuck on the east coast, but you should drop all and go!

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging replys. I do not plan to wear my leg when climbing. I broke my left hip about 12 years ago when i crashed my quad. I was wearing my leg and it was the reason my hip broke. So i nolonger wear my leg when doing anything where i could crash hard. long story short, when i broke my hip i was around 150lbs and 7% body fat. my plan is to get to 150 and around 10%-15% or less in the next year. BTW: I'm a very high AK amputee. i lost 13lbs when my leg was amputated and i was only 135lbs at the time.

There's this girl Molly (I think it's Molly, it's been 3 years since we climbed together) who was a leg amp at the hip...she had some interesting climbing styles I could show you. I bet I could track down her contact info if you're interested.

Hey 1Leg, It sounds like you've got the right idea. Ronnie Dickson is one of our Paradox Sports guys. As a prosthetist he can also help you figure out one-legged climbing as well. Where are you located? We have contacts all over the country and are organizing events in quite a few areas. Get in touch ASAP. 303/500-3316 Mal
