Climbing Shoe Repair

Ok, the situation is I live in Malaysia with no access to a proper shoe resoler/do it yourself resoling kit.

The ordinary cobblers I've been to have suggested patching over the hole with leather, but that doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

Could anyone suggest something I could do to either repair the hole in my shoe or prevent it from worsening?

Thanks.

Photos attached.

Side note: On the other shoes I've worn away the rubber on a small area and don't want it to develop into another hole, I was thinking about using super glue to form a protective layer, would this damage the rubber?

Those are beyond saving, even if you had access to a real resoler. Sorry dude, you need new shoes.

Yipes. I think you drag your toes. You need new rands, assuming that is still possible(?)

A leather patch might actually work, since the hole is probably from toe dragging and not front pointing. Or you might be able to razor knife some rubber out of the heal and make a rand patch.... good luck. Unimpressed

Also, you might look into stealth paint for future repairs although you'll want to catch it earlier next time.

Impressive repairs.

Yeah, these were my first pair I got about a month after starting to climb so they got pretty battered from the initial 'toe drag' phase.

I suppose climbing indoor twice a week for the last few months didn't help either.

Yosemite Bum (a division of Evolv) resoled 6 pairs of shoes for me earlier this year. Amazing job on all 6 pairs, including one pair that were as damaged as the OP's shoes. I can't recommend them enough.

Shipping from Malaysia might be a bit expensive though.

And to the OP: You will need both a leather patch AND a new rubber rand on top of the leather. That's a very difficult repair to do. And superglue won't work at all, period. Thailand, Japan, and S. Korea all have huge climbing communities - I'm sure there's someone who does resoles there. Is shipping to those countries any cheaper than the States?
