OK. More big wall spew (literally).

I guess I have no life cuz I’m leafin’ through my new (got thinner) copy of Climbing (# 218).

Wadaya know!! Now you can buy a professionally made big wall sh**er! Wow! According to the review, written by the seriously RAD alpine big wall climber, Mark Synnott, you can now purchase either the Metolius Waste Case (500 cu. in.), or the Mountain Tools Big Wall Can (431 cu. in.). The Metolius unit is fabricated from traditional haulbag materials while the Mountain Tools unit is composed (or composted) of a plastic cylinder with lid. The Metolius unit retails for $60 while the Mountain Tools unit goes for $90. The part that really got me about the Metolius unit was that:

“It comes with six WAG bags, each including a biodegradable trash bag pre-filled with a gelling agent, odor neutralizer, decay catalyst powder, and toilet paper, antiseptic towelette, and zip-close storage bag.”

Holy S**t!!! I didn’t know my un-favored cargo was so special! Wow. This is like futuristic! Damn; I better start watching more sci-fi movies. With all this new technology, we might see Mr. Way climbing El Cap!!!

I thought wall climbers were supposed to be poor, low-life, disturbed individuals who had an exceptional ability to devise hi-tech, homemade gear to get themselves through the worst of vertical living and the utmost in dirtbagdom? What happened to 'make it yourself'? Cheaper solutions to the sh*t-cargo dilemma exist. These solutions can be further discussed on this thread.

All haul bags are equal on the wall. Or at least, they're equal as far as abrasion resistance.

But, that's not what you're asking.

Metolius has the best carrying straps, which is most important: humping up to and down off the wall.

I mean, you try humping the Amazing Flying Whale (a homemade pig scaled up from a grade V pig, with the straps WAY out of whack, and see how bad you feel).

Good straps = smile. Bad straps = *%&#)#))#.

Metolius rules.

$60 will buy you a lot of paper bags, or a lot of more-useful gear. I wonder how much Metolius is jacking people for additional $#!& bags? I'll stick with kitty litter and my PVC tube.

Um, I'd have to agree with PTPP, there's very little chance of Way getting up the Captain...

Not unless they constructed showers and flushing toilets on all major ledges, not to mention periodic hand/face washing stations...

I hesitate to even acknowledge the metolious crapper with a comment. I mean, that's just rediculous! First person on a wall with one of those is bound to be a laughing stock...

First off, who is Mr. Way????

I bought one of the dry bags at the mountain shop in the valley. The thing is great. It can be opened on both ends. You can roll up one end to keep it small. Very durable. I haven't heard anything bad about them. Anyone have one of these?

"Who is Mr Way?" It's not a really about a person or even a question. Rather, it is statement.

When a climber cries "Who is Mr. Way?" they are venting their frustration with a climbing community that embraces mediocrity by adding chicken bolts to boldly established lines.
