I recently have gotten into a game called geo caching some of you might know what that is but it's not important really. Anyways the other day I was trying to locate a cache and for a minute I thought it would require me to climb down a cliff turns out I didn't have to but it got me thinking. So I started looking at other caches and found some are actually located in a cliff face. That would be fine except I'm disabled and have a bad back so climbing down and back up a cliff is out of the question, my question is, is there some kind of electric or mechanical winch type device that I could connect to a tree or a large rock and to an arm of some kind and harness and have it lower and then raise me back up. I'm more curious than anything my other solution to that kind of problem would be a radio controlled quad copter that could grab it and bring it back to me.

If the cliff isn't too tall, you could just rappell from the top, get the cache, and continue down to the ground. Depending on the level of your disability this might require some special considerations. Of course, do your research before going out and killing yourself.

Yes there is... http://www.actsafe-ascenders.com/.../acc-power-ascender/ I have tried one out at work once... they are BRILLIANT! Very pricey but it would suit your needs perfectly. They are also very heavy but as long as you have some sort of transport to the site... You will still need to know what you are doing - safe ways to set up anchors (e.g. the right way to tie your rope to a tree) and you must use double ropes with it (a back up rope in case of failure of the mechanism in it - it shouldn't happen but is always a possibility). Training from a reputable trainer is a MUST (i.e. not from rockclimbing.com) and industrial rope access techniques are more appropriate to this piece of equipment than rock-climbing techniques. A very very cool piece of equipment.

It sounds like you need a caching partner. Someone with the knowledge and ability to rig a rappel, retrieve the cache and ascend back up the rope.
