How many people on this website hike and mountaineer as well as rock climb? There's a movement called the Blue Ribbon Coalition that is threatening the wilderness and the way we play in the outdoors. The Bush administration is rolling back some legislation that the Clinton presidency put in place. Read this article Bush opens up backcountry trails to vehicles, on MSNBC. I hope that everyone who thinks that tearing up the woods with an ATZ/4-wheeler/motorbike considers the damage not to mention the pollution this creates. They have had to actually shut down protions of Yellowstone National Park because the smog from snowmobiles was so thick it flunked federal regulations on air quality. I would hate to have to slog through smog in the middle of Yellowstone on cross-country skiis because a bunch of fatass window tourists decided to take a tour on a deathsled. Okay, maybe this is starting to sound like propoganda. I wrote a piece for college in 2001 about it and posted it here Destructive Behavior and ever since have been very edgey on the subject. If I catch anyone doing this with their gas guzzling redneck mobile, then they will surely be in for a long trek to go get some new tires for it. What do you expect when we elect (or actually allow to gain office by a f***ing glitch in the system) a trigger happy redneck as president. His idiotic destuction goes beyond the environment. With the way he bombs third world villages with reckless aboandon. He claims to be fighting terrorism, but that is not what he is doing. For instance, Osama was in Afganistan, we all know that. But how is that an excuse for American bombs to senselessly murder thousands of innocent villagers? WHo are the terrorists now?

1) Much as we all dislike it, the National Parks Service was intended to allow all Americans to visit the great outdoors in addition to protecting it from ourselves. As opposed to putting tourists in essentially buses with tank treads (which is what Bill Clinton's plan was), people are allowed to roam freely. However, they are still requiring 4 stroke engines for the snowmobiles within th park so as to cut down on the pollution. 2) Georgie Boy (aka Mini-Bush) feels it is his right, nay, duty, to undo everything that terrible womanizer/democrat did in his 8 nationally supported years getting the highest approval ratings until Bush himself came to power. Regardless of whether or not they actually did good is regardless, the domestic policy additions of Clinton are being reversed. 3) You do not have to go to Yellowstone. Much as you don't like it, there are hundreds and thousands of places in Wyoming alone that you can go to and enjoy everything except the geysers. Also, you could visit Yellowstone earlier in the season when there isn't nearly enough snow for snowmobilers. I hate to say it, but there is damned little we can do about this save a call for electric snowmobiles (and we all know how likely that is). I don't like ATVs or 4 wheeling as a past time anymore than you do, but you are simply being a zealot and that causes you to lose credibility with the powers that be. Politicians make compromises with their contributing constiuency. They do not act unilaterally in agreement with a group that does not support them. That's called political suicide. 4) Since this only vaguely related to climbing (being that there is precious little to be had in Yellowstone, the big stuff is about 30 miles south) and more of an environmental/political thread, doesn't this belong in Community?

I dunno man, I'm gonna be %@#$in' bummed if people can motocross all over Yosemite and the Needles. Should probably go *somewhere* else but Community doesn't echo to the front page, so I'll give a look and see where maybe it better belongs, fair enough?

"Where miners and wagons trains went, so should dirt bikes, they say." WHAT!? If that is their justification, then let them build a wagon and hitch it to some oxen or ride a jackass into the backcountry. Just because they're so lazy and FAT (I'm talking to you, 80% of America), it's no excuse to go and tear up the earth. If all they want to do is "see the natural wonders", as they claim, then I will go and videotape it for them. It will be the same. In the article, a spokesperson for the Blue Ribbon coalition said that "That historic use in our view should provide for continued recreational use of those routes." and "The government should not be allowed to close those routes." Well, actually, last time I checked, none of them were closed... Learn to tie your shoes and maybe you can get started getting your fat bodies into shape. Rediculous A.W.

Bush is a redneck. Perhaps, next election, we can pitch in and buy some kegs of Natural Light to get the rednecks drunk. Then they won't know who they're voting for, and maybe, just maybe, someone else will win.

Shoot, the approach to Half Dome would be crazy fun on a KX250, not to mention a heck of a lot quicker...........maybe turn El Cap Meadows into a supercross arena.
