Found some in my basement and it is very old. No idea how old but I can't even read the directions on the back. How much should I use for washing a 60m rope? I'm either going to hand wash it in a cooler or take it to a front loading laundry mat and run a rinse cycle first, then place it in the washer. I don't have a mesh bag, so I was thinking of either daisy chain / electrician braiding the rope so knots won't form or just putting in directly in the washer Comments?

I wash my ropes fairly regularly. Just throw 'em in the washer daisychained 2x or 4x, w/o degergent or soap, cold/warm cycle. Haven't had any issues yet... BTW, I highly doubt Woolite has an "expiry date"...at least not one that would affect ropes.

speaking of woolite, does anyone know offhand the active and inert ingredients in woolite versus other true detergents that make(s) the difference? FWIW, i've always just done water washes and it has worked fine. a few delicate cycles and a hang dry have worked well for my ropes.

unless your rope is truly nasty, no detergent should be necessary. id run more than one pre-wash rinse cycle in a laundromat, though- never know what people put in those machines.
