Climbing in Tuscany, Italy?

I've been offered some work in Viareggio on the coast near Pisa for the months of July and August. I had plans to do a US road trip but they are kind of falling through and my wife will also be working in Tuscany so I'm thinking about delaying my road-trip and heading there for a few months.

Anyone have any experience with this area? I'm told it's beautiful and all that, but what's it like from a climbers point of view? Will there be any areas that are not to hot to climb? Will I be able to hook up w/ locals? I don't speak Italian and won't have a car, but will have a flexible schedule and a sizable budget for beer/gas if someone was willing to let me tag along.

Anyone got any leads?

Thanks.

Leads? Yeah, sure... I'll just check with the boys down at the crime lab.
