Hi, Im looking for a cheap shoe (preferably under $50), but want the most out of my money. Can someone give me some suggestions?

I looked at amazon and found the Mad Rock Men's Frenzy, La Sportiva Scorpion, and Mad Rock Men's Asylum, Red Chil Durango, and Evolv Men's Demorto.

Also, I know that a lot of people have suggested the Evolv Defy for beginner, but is the extra cost of $30-$35 really worth purchasing it? (what advantages do the Defy have in comparsion to the such models listed above available for under $35-$50?)

Thank you so much!!!!

cant say I know of any climbing shoe under $50- Mad Rock will likely be your best bet in terms of cost. whether it fits (the most important part) is another question.

try a few on, go with the one with the best fit for the lowest cost.

There are billions of threads on RC.com about rock shoes. A search will keep you busy for days sorting through a whole bunch of worthless opinions.

Somewhere in there, though, you might actually find a grain of truth. It boils down to this: the best shoe is the shoe that fits you best. Try on those in your price range and pick the one that has the best fit for you.

For a beginner I would say get something with a lot of rubber on the toe so it lasts longer. 5.10 Spire and Evolv Royale both fit this category pretty well. They are the blue beginner shoes that you see everyone wearing. Steep and Cheap often has the Evolv Royale for $36 or thereabouts if you know your size without trying them on.

hey thanks guys!Smile

How often does steep and cheap have evolv royales for sale? I checked on the internet and the ebay price is $65 o.o

In reply to:
I haven't tried the evolv royale yet. However, I am a size 8 on Nikes, what size should that translate to for the Evolv line of shoes/ 5.10 Spire line? thanks

Evolve Royal is one of the best "cheap" shoes I've ever climbed in. I use them a lot at the gym 'cuz I don't want to wear out my other shoes and I really like them, to the point that I have started climbing longer routes outside with them.

They are comfy, supportive, and last forever. Perfect for a beginner.

Madrock Flash is another great cheap shoe, but it's not really a beginners shoe.

Get the Royale.

Lots of rubber won't help when it peels off due to footdrag ;)

Ignore anyone who tells you to get a specific shoe.

DO NOT order a shoe online and hope it will fit. It won't.

The correct answer is go to a shop with experienced climbers who know their shit, have them help you find a shoe that fits, and get that one.

End.

Of.

Thread.

If you do you are an asshole. You want to benefit from their experience and knowledge you pay them for it. It is just common sense and courtesy.

If you use the service that a storefront offers, then pay their prices. The reason the internet is so cheap is because compared to retail, they give crap service cus you can't try before you buy. Go to your local gear shop and find some shoes that fit, then pay for them.
