Hey all,
My first training post.
I will be on vacation for about 6 weeks. I probably will not be able to do any climbing or go the the gym. I have been training pretty hard for the last few months on Horst's 4-3-2-1 cycle and made a lot of progress, but I don't want to lose what I have. What is the best way to maintain my strength without climbing? I have a hand strength grip thing, but what are some other ideas?
Thanks

Where are you going? What do you have available? What part of the cycle are you on?

I am going to Turkey, but probably won't be doing any climbing. I will be traveling around and staying in hostels. I don't want to carry a lot so I was only planning to bring my hand grip strengthener. I doubt if most of the places I will stay will have gyms available. I am in the middle of the second part of the cycle - finger strength. thanks

Hmm, thats pretty tough, you can always check door frames to make sure they are strong enough to hold your weight and then do hangs on door frames

Take 6 weeks off. Any nagging injuries or soreness will go away, you won't lose any strength and just a little endurance. Come back refreshed and train harder than ever.

pack shoes? Not that heavy on the off chance you wander past a cool Boulder. Loads of rock in Turkey.

6 weeks off is not that bad if you don't get fat.

just get as trashed as you can (but not injuried) before you leave...

6 week vacation and it's not a climbing trip?.....I think I found your problem.

But honestly, if you're going on a trip like this that involves no climbing just enjoy the trip. But recommendation...don't get fat, control your eating and drinking.

You are totally blowing it if you don't at least go bouldering in turkey.

I personally would make the roped stuff happen at Geyikbayiri, looks phenomenal on the videos and pics I've seen. PHENOMENAL!

(sorry this is not exactly a reply to your question but I wanted to add...)
Geyikbayiri is phenomenal. But in august both Geyikbayiri and Heraklia would be hot hot hot... Your best bet for climbing is probably aladaglar (check out www.aladaglarcamping.com for some info). There are two small bouldering gyms in Istanbul; though you dont want to spend your time in a bouldering gym if you are in Istanbul :)
There is climbing all over the place, but summer is not the best season.
