So to start out this whole narrative, me and three other friends were heading to Seneca for the weekend, and seeing as how we usually stay at Snowbird, that is where we were heading. We pulled, in picked out a campsite, and sat around for a couple minutes. The usual protocol is for everyone to start setting up camp, and one person to go register, no big deal, we've done it a lot. Anyway, a blue pickup truck with three middle aged men (employees cleaning up trash) pulled up, one hopped out and we were very aggressively told that we had half an hour to register and that if we ever drive into the campground like we did again there would be serious problems (I'll admit that we were above the speed limit, but it was not excessive in any way.) They started to drive away, and I looked at my friend like "are these guys serious." And the driver of the truck immediately stopped it, turned it off and pointed at me yelling "hey you with the pony tail! What was that eyebrow for?" Things went down hill quickly, they screamed at us that we were liars and thieves among other things. One of them jumped back out of the truck. It was ridiculous, we tried to calmly explain to them that we had been there many times and that we were fully planning on registering, but they just kept getting themselves into more of a ridiculous frenzy. To the point that I was worried they were going to get violent. They were clearly looking for a fight. At one point they shouted "there's a new sheriff in town." We all agreed at the end that it was the most unreasonable conversation any of us had ever had. Needless to say we immediately jumped in the car and went to Seneca Shadows. I don't plan on ever going back to Snowbird. Anyone know whats going on there?? New management? Either way I can't recommend that anyone go there right now. The behavior of those three employees, owners, or whatever they were was absolutely unacceptable. I will be contacting the company that owns the campground tomorrow.

Thats kind of crazy. I've never had problems with the employees but I don't stay there because the rednecks get loud on the weekends and their water supply tastes like hell. I doubt talking to the owners will amount to much but it's probably worth doing. Seneca Shadows is the way to go in the future.

The employees there were nothing but friendly and professional

I and others I know have had bad experiences with the camp nazi's at the shadows in the past as well. I have heard he is gone though. I have also heard princess is cracking down on folks not paying but a few of those can ruin a place.

Yeah, I can understand cracking down and making sure people pay, but the point that they went to was unacceptable. We're hoping to find someone higher up on the food chain who actually cares that their employees are scaring paying customers off of their camp. We'll see...

Alpine07- I am a local climber and employee of Shirley Yokum... I can assure you that Shirley did not know that the people who were checking registration were behaving so innappropriately, It has been brought to her attention and she gives her apologies. The issue has been addressed with the people you have mentioned, and it will not happen again. We have had a lot of trouble with people not paying for camping, and we are trying to fix that issue. Unfortunatley some employees took it too far. Although you shouldn't be treated this way in the future, to avoid any further problems simply register before entering the campground, just like the sign says when you enter. Also, Shirley has set the speed limit for everyone's safety, there are always kids and pets running around, especially on the weekends. The low speeds also keep the dust down, and the gravel in place. Again we are sorry for the experience, and hope to see you here in the future.

I haven't been on here in a while hence my late reply. It is very good to hear that she cares that her employees were acting in that manner. I was hoping that someone up top would care that having employees harass repeat paying customers can be harmful to business. After that experience I'm not sure if any of us will go back, at least until we hear reports from other people going there. Your message certainly makes it more likely.

I can't be sure it wasn't that guy, when we were there they were driving around a blue pick up that was full of trash. The main guy giving us trouble was sporting a big white cowboy hat and was referring to himself as the new sheriff, lol. The skinnier dude driving the truck seemed to have something against my long hair, haha. And the chubby one in the middle seat of the truck (funny right?) was just along for the ride, agreeing with the other two. It was amazing.

Crazy story. I was at Snowbird last the weekend of July 16/17 and didn't have any trouble other than the normal road noise and obnoxious partying going on in the trailer village. That said, Seneca Shadows can be just as noisy as Snowbird. The degree of noise really just seems to be luck of the draw.

I always used to stay at Snow Turd. We always paid, but usually just whenever we happened to go over to Yokum's. In fact I seem to recall times that we didn't pay until we were on our way out of town and stopped by the store. No one every hassled us, and we were always good for it. It's too bad if they're having problems with people not paying. Sometimes it's nice to have the flexibility in when you pay, especially if you arrive late and want to start climbing early. I've definitely been guilty of excessive speed in the campground. And excessive noise too, for that matter.
