i could drop about 5-10 lbs. of the blort. but it'x coming off fast from shoveling, skiing, and dropping sugar, salt and most bad fats. i've turned to a mostly vegetarian diet.

In the last week I have hand shovelled my 90 foot long driveway 4 times, hit up a couple pilates classes, and had a crusher session at the gym.

I then proceeded to slip on the last step whilst exiting the climbing gym, fell on my keister, and slammed my hand onto the pavement. It is a very cool shade of purple now, but at least it doesn't hurtez.

gramps, you need those special trax to put on your shoes that prevent slippage on ice

Somehow convinced the wife to shovel the driveway after last night's storm. I decided against telling her about the anti-blort benefits of this particular activity.
Hahaha!!!

I'm just trying to drop a few ( dozen) pounds so I can fit my ass back in my harness and see if I even remember how to use a friggen ATC.

between arthritis and various injuries and constant lung infections, been 3 years since I strung together more than 2 weeks of exercise in any meaningful way.

I'm hopeful that I can re-learn to flail my way up at least a 5.3 sometime before I die.

Can't you make zucchini, banana, or carrot cakes and breads using applesauce instead of butter?

Yum!

It's not the same.

I dropped about 20-25 pounds over the course of the spring. Holding steady now at about 182. I could probably drop another 5-7, but I'm not too worried about it. I think it's helped my climbing, but hard to know... last year I only got out 2 days, so maybe the improvement has come from more days on the rock.

The key for me was cutting out (some of) the junk food. In the past I've relied on exercise more than diet, but now I just don't have the time to exercise the amount I would need to do. And when I do have time for exercise, I'd rather be climbing...

Somehow I've managed to avoid weight gain despite having next to no exercise lately. My problem has been with muscles ever so slowly tightening until they're like bowstrings. Decided enough was enough after the Thursday before last. Late for a meeting, I half-jogged down a short but steep hill. By the bottom I was limping. By the next day I was having trouble walking. I spent the weekend laid out flat, dosed up on diclofenac, waiting for my back to loosen up again.

Once I was able to move relatively normally I tried some stretching exercises. On the hamstring stretch I was shocked to discover that I couldn't bend much past 90 degrees (not so long ago I could easily touch my forehead to the ground). After half an hour of stretching - with some very strange twitches in the vicinity of my ass - I was back to a reasonable range of motion. A couple of hours later when I tried again it was back to 90 degrees...

Easy to let things get away from you, isn't it?

Tristan, you may not be receptive of the idea, but a good chiropractor has helped me with similar injuries, particularly with my back. One treatment should do wonders.

chiropractors are the devil. but that's just me. massage therapy helps. the best thing that i did, though, was start yoga on a regular basis.

I've had good (if expensive) experience with a chiropractor in the past, but also extremely bad (and equally expensive) experience with others. That's the problem with poorly regulated industries... but thanks for the suggestion.

Stretching is certainly starting to make a difference, but progress is slow.
