Dear person(s) who stole my rack and ropes from a beach parking lot in Pacific City...you know who you are, First, I don't understand you at all. And honestly I'm kinda proud of that fact, cause if I did that would mean we had something in common. You won't be able to sell any of that gear. Since all of it is WELL used, not a single climber in their right mind will buy it. It really only has worth to me...and apparently you, you waste of good oxygen. And if you do choose to use it...well, I hope you choke on those cams. This leaves me at a crossroads. Since, you left craftsman tools, pocket knives etc that would have been infinitely easier to steal and sell, my best guess is that you are a climber. Which is probably the saddest part of this whole ordeal. You would give a bad name to the best community of people I've been proud to be a part of for the past 6 years. However, I would like to choose to believe you are just the dumbest thief ever. And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised. Most robberies aren't exactly planned Ocean's 11 style... For all other climbers: don't lose faith in your climbing community on account of this. I still believe our sport is filled with some of the most honest people I've ever met. For my thief: you suck at life. Very Sincerely, Nathan PS - All my hardware is marked with two lines with a dot in between made with orange paint. (like this>> |*| ) If you see it in use, give them my best regards.

I hope your gear fails for him... maybe not in a catastrophically fatal way, but a few broken legs would be appropriate.

If you have home or renter's insurance you might be able to come out ahead on this one with a bunch of brand new gear.

That just sucks to hear. I left my nikon digital slr on a boulder, made it all the way back to camp, before noticing. When I rushed back it was there, the other climbers joked about using it, and leaving an e mail addy in hopes I would send them the pics. The reason I share this is with you, is the last part of your post. Figured it might help as a reminder of how good most of the community is and can be. Again sorry to hear that.

That totally blows man. Reminds me of when I had my climbing shoes stolen. They were well worn and had a terrible, dank smell to them. Don't know what kind of person would steal it. Hopefully they'll turn up though. Good luck getting some new pro in the mean time.

Unfortunatly, they didnt take any. None of us had pen and paper either. They wher cool people too, If we could've exchanged e mails, I would've shot pics for them. The extra few moments would have been more then worth it, seeing that the camera was there.

Good luck with your recovery... You should post a bulletin at your local crags, climbing store, pawn shops... & so on.

Or maybe some generous climber with extra gear may donate , for good karma ?

speaking of stolen gear, I know one case where a climber took a rope of a climber who got killed in a climbing accident and no one knew what happened to the missing rope and then a year later that same climber fell and died when the stolen rope broke. Not kidding, taking stuff from another climber has the worse karma to go with it.
