Weird question, I know, but can anyone advise?

I'll be bringing 3 people with me; one whom I've taken to Seneca a few times (he doesn't lead yet, but could probably pinkpoint on my gear on an easy route), and 2 others who've climbed literally one time before (toproping).

It'll be Labor Day weekend, so Humphrey's Head will be a mob scene. I'm thinking that some of the shorter, easy routes on the North Peak, East Face might be enjoyable topropes for these guys, but am wondering if anyone has direct experience with the anchor opportunities, tourists, etc. Worth the effort?

Many thanks,

James

I've taken kids up to that area to do some top-roping, and I'm sure the last 5 or 6 listed in the guide book are easily set up with good anchors above. If you get up there, do yourself a favor and hike up the "tourist trail" on the west side. MUCH easier!

Great -- thanks, Mike! I'll give it a spin. Speaking of singletrack, we're aiming to do some riding around Davis while we're in the neighborhood, too. Should be a nice weekend. Thanks again.

I should have mentioned this in my original reply - check out the Lower Slabs for much better quality climbs. Scuttle, Descrepency, Warlock and Autumn Fire are easy to rope up (anchor). This last one is a 5.11c and is probably the best "short" climb I've done at Seneca.
