a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....we never bought or sold used climbing gear unless we absolutely knew the history of the gear (shoes one exception).... i find it incredible that people buy used hardware on craigslist/ebay etc. from a complete stranger and trust their life to it....

Agreed for software only. Hardware, no problem.

Gear got a lot better and Aliens conditioned all of us that new isn't always perfect.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, we also thought we'd drop dead from microfractures. I might not do it either, but I think that's more a visceral reaction to it than anything based on logic. And despite my gut reaction to it, if I showed up to buy the gear and it was, for example, a mostly new rack of TCUs and C4s, I wouldn't have a problem with it.
