also, for any one-handed climbers starting out (if there are any), a great source of motivation is the pride of seeing everyone you are with fail a route and then nailing it your first try!!!!!

i've had this happen many times, today was one of them. Wink

Why can't the climbers with two hands be so damned positive as you. I climb with so many who have a list of excuses (Off day, age, weight, not their style, poorly graded, etc etc etc, My excuse is age!!!) Go for it. if you can do it, great. If you can't, work at it until you find a way. This appears to be your excellent philosophy. Wish I had your moral fiber and courage!

I used to climb with a guy in Scotland with half of his arm missing (right around the elbow). He was an avid cyclist and got hit on the road one day by a big lorry, but that didn't stop him. He continued to cycle and climb as well. He used his stump for balance only and actually climbed pretty hard.

Because of his attitude, it never even dawned on me that he was "disabled." He was just another climber in the group. I can't remember how he did it, but he also devised a way to lead, as well. No prosthetic. Not sure what he did for cycling, though.
