http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?username=toolsinsurance; http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?username=designerglasses; So far no posts, but i would bet good money that those are not eager new climbers, who just happen to post a few words about their company, until they have something meaningfull to say about climbing… So maybe a green one might want to see how they are going to start their posting life on this site, and end it, should my suspicion that they are just spammers be correct. qwert

A click on the "Who's Online" link will get you a list of users of whom at least 80% are pretty obvious spammers (most have usernames ending in 2-4 digits). It's been like that for at least a week now.... edit: unfortunately, not all users with #s on the end of their usernames are spammers. e.g. rome6499 seems legit.

O shit, you seem to be right. Didnt someone already post about various "spammers" who do nothing, but to have a url in their profile? Seems like those folks are all in that profession. Anyone actually know how that pays off? How high are the chances that somone will stumble upon a profile by a user that has never been active, and then click a stupid nondescript link, that however clearly has nothing to do with the subject of climbing, and then actually do something on that said that produces profit in any way? Or is it just some shady way of SEO, where you try to place your links on a rather well known site? So anyways, i propose all folks with digits in their usernames get banzed, that would also get rid of that annoying JT dude ;) … On a more serious note: There seems to be a captcha now, so those folks are not bots. How about trying to add another system to that? Just show a picture of some climbing gear, or some really iconic wall (eg. El Capitan or Cerro Torre) and give three options to click what it shows. If this gets answered correct, there should be a much smaller chance that the new user is a spammer. If it gets answered incorrect, just put the user on a watch list, to find out if its a spammer, or just a new user without any clue about climbing. qwert

I'll bet you that, if left alone, they'll never post here. Nevertheless, they're smarmy, system-gaming bastards who, IMO, should be banned.
